Publisher's Summary
Renowned author Delphine Larue needs a haven. A crazed fan has gone over the deep end, and she’s not safe. Her security team has suggested a house by a lake. Secluded. Private. Far away. In a beautiful area of the Northwest close to the sleepy town of Misted Pines. It’s perfect. So perfect, Delphine has just moved in, and she’s thinking she’ll stay there forever.
Until she sees the girl in the mist.
After that, everything changes.
Delphine quickly learns that Misted Pines isn’t so sleepy. A little girl has gone missing, and the town is in the grips of terror and tragedy. The local sheriff isn’t up for the job. The citizens are up in arms. And as the case unfolds, the seedy underbelly of a quiet community is exposed, layer by layer.
But most importantly, girls are dying.
There seems to be only one man they trust to find out what’s happening.
The mysterious Cade Bohannan.

Feeling a bit disappointed
First let me say I absolutely adore Kristen Ashley! I own almost every book she has written both in print and Audible. They are my "go to" books and I really enjoy her characters and storylines!
I dove into this book as soon as it hit my kindle Audible account but for some reason I found the story to be a little "flat". For me the narrators voice was a bit emotionless which spoiled both the romance (I didn't feel the connection between the H and h) and the dramatic side of the story. At times I found my mind wandering and would have to hit the rewind button to go back and see what I'd missed.
After reading other reviews with 5 stars I think I'll go back and read the book this time, perhaps not having to listen to the narrator I'm hoping I will enjoy the story more!
Regardless, K A is still my #1 author and even if this book was a miss for me I'll for sure be in line to purchase her next offering!

Don't bother unless you like verbal p***.
I didn't know this author but I thought it sounded interesting. I stopped at chapter 4 due to the verbal p***. I'm fearful that some innocent reader will inadvertently listen to this filth. Books should be rated like movies. I'm a grandmother and a prolific Audible listener. I listened to books on tape before Audible.
Audible please develop a method to warn listeners of this filth.

Not quite a sleepy town
I've been a fan of Kristen Ashley's for a while now and it never ceases to amaze me how she can write so many books that I absolutely LOVE, The Girl in the Mist is just the newest addition to the list.
We start off with Delphine Larue needing to get away and hide for a while while a search is going on for a crazed fan that has gone over the deep end. So she purchases a house in the sleepy little town of Mystic Pines, but this sleepy town is anything but boring that's for sure!
Cade Bohannan is tasked with keeping Delphine safe, but now that young girls are showing up dead in his town he needs to catch a killer as well, because the town's sheriff isn't fit for the job.
This story was sooo good! The chemistry between Delphine and Cade was great and I LOVED their relationships with their children as well, but what I enjoyed even more than that Is that keeps you guessing to the very end on who the killer could be.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and LOVED the narration done by Hillary Huber, she did a great job with bringing this story to life.
This is an easy book for me to recommend not only to fans of KA's work, but to anyone that enjoys a good Romantic Suspense as well.
Happy Reading!!!

Another "winner" from Kristen Ashley
I wait with both anticipation and dread for a new Kristen Ashley book launch...the dread comes because her book will capture all my time and attention until the very last word..and, this book was no exception. The Girl in the Mist is a romantic/thriller page-turner. The heroine and protagonist are both mature 50-ish adults, which made the story even more interesting. These folks weren't angsty young people rife with 'issues', they were adults who were cool and 'together' (all the better to focus on the actual story!). The ancillary characters serve to enhance the atmosphere of the locale...a small town in WA. This book is a crime thriller...a really good one. As a book 'listener' the narration is a big part of the total experience for me, and this narrator, Hillary Huber does an excellent job. I especially like her 'voice' of the main character, Delphine LaRue. I confess to being a huge fan of this author. One of the reasons why is her willingness to explore different types stories and genre. Make no mistake, she writes Romance...which is my personal go-to for entertainment. What distinguishes a Kristen Ashley book/series is the 360 degree story surrounding the characters. She gives you the entire 'world they live in'. The Girl in the Mist is an example of how entertaining a Kristen Ashley novel is. Be forewarned, this book is for a mature audience. ...rather like a conversation with a 'best girlfriend'. Just to be clear, her books are like potato chips for me...you can't read/listen to just one...Thankfully, there are LOTS to choose from.

Disappointed ...
I love KA I really do, but I really struggled to finish this book. The story had so many time jumps and the couple/familial relationships happened soooo fast. At times, I had to stop and go back because I felt I missed a few "pages." The FMC annoyed me a bit. Her rambling thought processes left me wondering what just happened. She was proferring advice to a father on how to discipline his daughter and handle a situation at her school, a few minutes after she had met him. Did I miss something? Was she a psychologist/counselor or something? I don't know, maybe it's just me. She's was a bit judgmental a few times about people/things she knew nothing about. Also, no real build-up to the stalker issue. No real relationship development ... it was just there all of a sudden. I'll try a re-read, maybe that will help.

The narrator is very good, so I looked for other books read by her. The book, however, went to a bad place for me early when she referred to her body with the c word. No woman I know likes that word or would use it to describe herself. I stopped right there.

3 frustrating stars...
Ok so first off, this Bohanan guy was almost too good to be true. His twin sons, something out of Twilight with how they were so close and perfect looking and really into the family business and SOOOO protective of lil sis and blahblahblah... ok, no 20-something guy actually has his crap together. And unless his little sister is about to be assaulted, he could care less about her and her life/friends. He's too busy with his own. And of course everyone is loaded and nobody has money problems even though they're from a small town and everyone knows small town economies are AWFUL but of course they're rich because ok it's fiction. But then we have the but seks. And the disgustingly graphic descriptions of THAT from a Random Female Character, speaking about how she does her husband (instead of the other way around) was completely outta left field. Like, literally outta nowhere and absolutely unsettling. It reminded of the common situation of that one kid thats a quiet sweetie pie and really doesn't cuss at all, suddenly one day under the sting of peer pressure and wanting to be "cool" around their new friends, start spouting off a string of them that don't even go together! It's like the author was trying her hand at butt stuff smut because a lot of other authors are too, and it just blew up and landed in left field like an awkward explosion no one ever saw coming. Took everyone by surprise. THEN!! Omg, THEN it even became sort of a side storyline! Yeah, like the bad guys have that going on for them as well - the weird butt stuff. Like, why?? I, for one, am completely nauseous after reading about some of the descriptions. It's a personal preference that backdoor is a very hard no for me - I don't wanna hear about it, read about it, see it, fkn smell it - ugh 😩😫 I'm afraid it just ruined the entire story for me. I mean, obviously I kept reading because I wanted to find out who the killer was, but when I found out it didn't make ANY sense. And it was even worse that the bad guy spent AN ENTIRE CHAPTER literally monologuing his reasonings and life story and "woe-is-me" BS. I mean, are u kidding me? I really wanted to like this book! I pre-ordered it and everything!! Gahhd... I'm so FRUSTRATED 🥴

Thrill-less Thriller
KA is an accomplished writer, but I wasn't sure what to expect when this was touted as her first thriller. I wish she hadn't done that. This story is standard KA fare. A light story with contrived drama, but slightly less entertaining.
There may be spoilers below...
My main problems with this book is that it lacked a clear identity and 90% of the "thrills" took place off scene with the hero whose prospective you do not get.
When the book starts, you kind of get the impression the direction is going in a psychic/mental abilities bend...and that gets hinted at a bit, and then it's dropped...and the H/H just have good instincts. The heroine's whole purpose for being in town is mostly wrapped up off scene, as if KA just decided "well, done with that drama." The town secrets and motivations had absolutely no purpose other than shock value...and they weren't that shocking for KA.
There isn't a clear view of the crimes, the killer, his motives other than "showing up" the hero, who is supposedly a skilled profiler yet we never get to see him in that light. The thrill in this thriller is apparently a side character who doesn't deserve any lines.
I found it very hard to finish this book and couldn't wait for it to be over. I don't know that I'd lay the issues of this book with the narrator. She's not my favorite by far, but I've listened to other thrillers she has read, and I've mostly enjoyed them. For me, the story was lacking.
I may be suffering from different expectations of what a KA thriller looks like and I'm sure KA will find her footing/voice in this genre, but for now...this ain't it. This is firmly in the listen once and move on pile.

Another KA miss
To be fair there might be a story here. However the narration was so bad I kept falling asleep, and then I didn’t care enough to go back and try to figure out what was going on. I hated everything about the heroine and found the “love story” to be completely unbelievable. What happened to the Kristen Ashley of old, who created wonderful women and strong men who deserved them???

Outstanding. I’m in love 😍
This is Kristen Ashley at her best. An amazing, emotional, truly thrilling read.
Someone made a ridiculous comment that the characters were ‘old’!! 53 old seriously?Stand aside honey and let the grownups read 😜.
I know I will listen to again to see how the puzzle pieces fit.
The narration is perfect. Not heard Hillary Huber before but I will look out for her after this.
But it you won’t regret it.

Fabulous book
Wow what a super charged suspenseful story! Amazing cast of characters. I cannot wait to see everyone we’ve just met get their own story. Getting to hear about past favourites too just made my day. This book had me in edge all the way thro but in the best way. Fabulous narration as always. Cannot wait for the next book now

this book keeps you interested right up to the end
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the characters, the plot twists, and the soothing voice of the reader. I have read other Kristen Ashley books but I think honestly that this is the best so far.

What happened?
Huge Kristen Ashley fan.... so excited to see a new title, but when I realised that I was more than half-way through the book, I'm thinking '"ahhh what have I missed?"'..... everything seemed to be glossed over. Everything that should be in the story was there, but only mentioned and the details left off the page.... the danger; the hero's skills as a profiler; her reason for relocating there; the H/h relationship; the relationship between the heroine and the hero's kids; and the other side characters. All of it was in the story somewhere, but don't ask me for details because there didn't seem to be any. I wasn't eager to continue with the book to find out what happens, as I couldn't quiet remember anything along the way.
I also found the heroine difficult to like... I guess the image was suppose to be ... super-wealthy, successful, famous, mature and comfortable in her own skin...which should translate into self-confident, likeable and hard-working. To me she just seemed arrogant and not authentic. This book missed the mark for me. I will go back and listen to it again, as many folks seemed to have gotten a lot out of it, so perhaps I missed that on first listen. There is always Colorado Mountain or The 'Burg series to fall back on!

Hi hum
This book is so obvious and with that typical American drawl it becomes worse. I wanted to like this book but I just can’t.

Was just what I needed...
Delphine Larue and Cade Bohannan are my new favourites from Kristen Ashley. The story was interesting, engaging and the characters were intriguing. I enjoyed the way the characters developed and the chemistry between Deli and Bohannan was undeniable and off the charts hot.
The supporting characters were likeable and I really hope we get more from them... Y'all are going to love the twins... Like their father, they are swoon worthy...
This was definitely something new from Kristen Ashley and I loved it. There was some new characters that were so easy to fall in love with and some old favourites make an appearance along the way... Definitely never a dull moment in Misty Pines...

Loved it.
Im a massive KA fan both reading and listening with 'Audible' of her stories and now like this new style of writing. I've skipped recently a few of her books that have just been okay. But still a die-hard fan as I constantly read or listen to the books series - Rock Chicks, Dream Man, Unfinished Heroes, Colorado and a burg or two.
First time listening to Hillary and she was perfect for this. Hope to hear her voice again in the next book of this series.
Why 5 stars, just loved this story from beginning to end. No spoilers from me.
