I Wanted to Like It but DNF

This book made me sooo frustrated. The main character had her head so deep in the sand she should have died of suffocation.

It got so bad that I was hoping that the zombies would get her.

So, to save myself from wanting to throat punch someone, I had to stop listening to this book. The narrator is great though.

Great Read

I am a Male, but I still enjoy stories with a female protagonist who is strong and has a sense of humor. I loved this book and have already purchased the next two. I know I won't be disappointed.

Alot to like, plenty to dislike.

the protag was fun and the story was interesting and engaging, the protag was pretty dumb and the plot has some holes but the author did a good job of telling an engaging story. I would consider reading other works by this author. i was annoyed by the fact that all the men were either antagonists or weaklings and that after half a book the protag is still bumbling around unbelieving of the supernatural, thats some act 1 shit.

Interesting Supernatural World, Enjoyable read

I enjoyed the storyline. I also enjoyed the perspective from the magician. It was different. I thought the story flowed well. The world building will continue in the next book. Much of this story was spent with the heroine discovering what she is. So, the other characters true supernatural species was unknown until the end. There was lots of action which I also enjoyed. I did find myself frustrated with the main character being taken advantage of. I hope she grows to stand up for herself in the next books. I had a hard time picturing the main character with the narrator's voice. For me, the narrator came across as older than the main character. Other than that, I think she did a great job. This is the first book in the series. So expect some loose ends.

Too long with her head in the sand

I had the same problem that a lot of people had - She took too long to figure out what was going on. I don't want to put any spoilers, so I'll keep it vague, but I get annoyed when people are too skeptical and it takes too long to move the plot along. It was written well in that it was understandable WHY she was skeptical (props James Randi reference), but I wanted to get into the meat of things sooner. I almost gave up halfway through, but ended up listening to the whole thing. I do not have any desire to continue the series. This almost felt like a prequel - like I might have enjoyed it more if I was already familiar with the characters and this was showing me how it all started.

I enjoyed listening to this novel. It was a good story with a few plot twists I was not expecting. Worth reading.

I really should not have started listening to this

I made it to 11 minutes before the creepy male privilege vibe of Darien with the implied blackmail, the underlying idea that he might be planning untoward advances towards Sasha when he asks the staff to leave the room, and the comment describing his voice as having a predatory edge had me cringing.
Context: today Dr Ford is being questioned by the Senate Judiciary committee about allegations of sexual assault... The writers of this piece (hopefully) unconsciously echo the message that a pretty woman (or any woman) should bow to the wishes of a male...Sasha's comments even admit to the idea that Darien might be about to propose something untoward as though it's the perfectly normal response.
Sorry, we need to remove the idea that women are things to men from the narrative... Attempted blackmail within 10 minutes of the start of the story isn't a good start.

I love this

Well written, well performed, and exciting. I love the characters and their personalities are great. I am intrigued by the mystery presented in Sasha and how she was found as toddler and whom her parents are. I cannot wait to find out more.
