Strange things are happening in Maya's tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then, one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya's home and her reactions to them are somewhat . . . unexpected. Her best friend, Daniel, has also been experiencing unexplainable premonitions about certain people and situations.

It doesn't help that the new bad boy in town, Rafe, has a dangerous secret, and he's interested in one special part of Maya's anatom - her paw-print birthmark.

What made the experience of listening to The Gathering the most enjoyable?

The reader tried its best to imitate the voices of the males. I've not experience those readers that can actually morph their voices. other wise I enjoy it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gathering?

How it begins to reveal slowly then leaves you in suspense. Don't wanna give away the story... lol

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Ikeda – was your favorite?

Maya

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The caring and the uncaring character of Maya, how she distinguish between animal and human.

A very nice style of writing...

The storyline was amazing and it made me want more from this author. I can't wait until the rest of the series is out

I love both this author and narrator. I will seek out books that Jennifer Ikeda works on just to listen to her choices, accents etc.

perfect combo of story and narrator

I enjoyed this book and the narrator was excellent. I would have given the story a higher rating if the cliff hanger ending was not such a let down. If the next in the series was available I might have not been so disappointed. Anyway I suggest you wait to listen to this book when the complete series is available.

Any additional comments?

I try not to read or listen to a book from a series unless the other books are available. So I was quite surprised with how this book ended. It has the ending of a

What did you like best about this story?

Even though its categorized as "teen book" adults can enjoy it a lot. It might start out a bit slow due to the high school stuff but heads into the story pretty fast and excitingly afterwards.

What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

My very favorite female reader. Heard her first with A Discovery of Witches. Fluent, flexible, never too much, intense, authentic.

Any additional comments?

Moved right on to book 2

A bit slow in the beginning but making up for it.

Reread to clear palate after reading empire of night. Love original Kelly Armstrong. Worth having in your library.

Though I loved this book, I would like to make a suggestion, if you like the book, and are interested in the story at the half way point, go ahead and purchase and download the second book in the series!!! The Narration is spot on, and the story is great so far. I say so far, because this book stops right in the middle of the story and leaves you hanging out there, with lots of questions, and no answers. Its seriously worth a listen though. Wish It would have come to a better stopping point, but depending on the second book, I might have another favorite series.

CLIFF HANGER!!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gathering to be better than the print version?

I liked listening to the story, it has a great inner dialogue from the view point of the main character that gives it an overall comfortable feel. I really appreciated the character development, but it lacked a clear ending.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Daniel, he's just such a great guy!

What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A voice to the character of Mia.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

?

Any additional comments?

I think a lot of the book would get lost if tried to place into a movie, there is just so many little details that would not make it due to time, and like I said, this book has no clear ending, it just ends. It's like the book got too long, so she abrubtly stops and begins the next book.

Great Beginning

This is a great story and held my attention right up until the end. Then it ended in the middle of the story. I read a lot of series and I was glad that The Gathering is intended to be the first book of a series. The other series that I have read come to a conclusion at the end of each book but still leave something to entice the reader to go to the next in the series. This one just stopped at a point that felt like it was the middle of the story. Very little was really resolved but a lot of questions were left. I wish the next in the series was released.

Good story - strange ending
