Story
In this classic best seller, Florence Scovel Shinn helped to define the personal success genre. Written in the new thought tradition, her message is simple yet transformative - we receive back what we put into the world through our actions, energy, and attitudes. Negativity and pessimism are returned in kind, but by switching the script in favor of positive attitudes and affirmations, we are able to manifest success and joy in everything we do. Life, Shinn tells us, is not a battle of us against the world, but rather a game of giving and receiving.

Jesus Christ emphasized the power of the word; "By thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned," and "death and life are in power of the tongue." So man has power to change an unhappy condition by waving over it the wand of his word. In the place of sorrow appears joy, in the place of sickness appears health, in the place of lack appears plenty. The imaging faculty is the creative faculty and it is important to choose words which bring a flash of the fulfillment of the demand.

Story
Are you ready to embrace universal law and live a natural life? If there is one overall message to this book, it is that we must avoid being overwhelmed by life, to realise that there is something larger than us which is willing to shoulder the burdens. If we can live by faith instead of fear, we have found the secret door to success that she speaks of. Scovel Shinn devoted her life to helping people recognize the link between their attitudes and their level of happiness. A relaxed state of expectancy, she taught, is the best mindset for bringing success into your life.

Just didn't like the narration
Would you try another book from Florence Scovel Shinn and/or Hillary Hawkins?
Yes I would try another book from Florence Scovel Shinn, but I don't think I would from Hillary Hawkins, but maybe a different subject with her voice might be just fine.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Hillary Hawkins?
I don't know exactly, someone with a more serious grown up voice. A voice such as Kathleen Turner.
Was The Game of Life and How to Play It worth the listening time?
Yes and no. The subject is almost whimsical because it is spiritual and filled with miracles, the voice made it almost comical. Like it couldn't be taken seriously and I believe and experienced miracles.

Love the message but ...
I so wanted to listen to this recommended book and truly loved each word written. Unfortunately, the narrator spoke too quickly, even at the slowest speed and the emotions were forced at times. I made myself to listen to the book in it's entirety, but I may consider buying the actual book instead.

Mind/game changer
The books main theme is - what you give you will get back. Here I write this review as an act of giving so that I may recieve a helpful review on a book I'll look at in future.
If you've done nothing before in learning mindset control, this exactly what you want to listen to to start your subconscious mind reprogramming for a successful happy life.
