Publisher's summary

At her assisted living center in Wedding Tree, Louisiana, 93-year-old Amelie O'Connor is in the habit of leaving her door open for friends. One day she receives an unexpected visitor - Kat Thompson, the ex-fiancée of her late husband, Jack. Kat and Jack were high school sweethearts who planned to marry when Jack returned from France after World War II. But in a cruel twist of fate, their plans were irrevocably derailed when a desperate French girl overheard an American officer's confession in a Parisian church...

Now Kat wants to know the truth behind a story that's haunted her whole life. Finding out how Amelie stole Jack's heart will-she thinks-finally bring her peace. As Amelie recalls the dark days of the Nazi occupation of Paris, The French War Bride reveals how history shapes the courses of our lives...for better or for worse.

A story of war, hardship, tragedy, & love

The author captured my attention from the beginning of this book. Love lost and gained through war and deception told between two women via a conversation is intriguing and heartbreaking. I hard agree hard time trying to figure out which of the two women to rally for. In the end,I believe they both received the love they wanted in this lifetime.

Sweeping, Grand, Historical. Passionate & Redemptive!

The narration was excellent and powerful! I missed a French accent but that may have made it more difficult to listen to so I still gave it 5 stars for that reason. This is a moving WWII romance and a present day reckoning. The historical facts and events were spot on and immensely moving, with the truth of beauty, self-sacrifice, denigration, loss, risk, convention, bravery, cleverness, reconciliation and deep abiding love ever present. I can not enough about this book! Highly recommended!

Loved this book

How wonderful to listen to a well narrated book and not being able to predict the conclusion. What a wonderful storyteller.

This has it all

Love learning about WWII, and this didn't disappoint. Very detailed and well told. Robin Wells is great writer. Love both books so much. Hated for it to end.

From another persons eyes

Two women, in love with the same man , but one living in America and one in Paris live and see the world and the war in very different ways. And the man begins to see himself in a very different way after the war has ended. What a wonderful way to tell a story and keep the reader in suspense. Loved the book and what I learned about how the same scenarios can be seen in many different ways when you don’t know all of the background.
