Publisher's Summary

Explore the captivating history of the French Revolution.

Few historical events are as greatly revered and entirely misunderstood as the French Revolution that began in 1789. The memory of this complicated and lengthy political, violent uprising has been generally painted in broad - and oversimplified - strokes.

While the French Revolution was certainly centered around two lavish monarchs and an enlightened common class, there was so much more going on behind the scenes.

In The French Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Ten-Year Revolution in France and the Impact Made by Napoleon Bonaparte, you will discover topics such as:

  • A brief history of the French Monarchy
  • Philosophies of the times
  • France in the 18th century
  • Marie Antoinette, Madame Deficit
  • Taxes, famine, and the Enlightenment
  • Sieyes’ “What Is the Third Estate?”
  • The National Assembly
  • Death of the Dauphin
  • Bastille Day
  • The first mayor of Paris
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man...and the Women’s March
  • France at war
  • The Flight to Varennes
  • Storming the Tuileries
  • The monarchy is outlawed
  • The fate of the colonies
  • The Louisiana Purchase
  • The Reign of Terror
  • The new French calendar
  • Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte
  • In the days and years afterward
  • And much, much more!

So, if you want to learn more about the French Revolution, then listen to this audiobook now!

Great!

I came to this book with a rudimentary knowledge of the subject and finished it with a firm sense that I now understand the key moments in this fascinating and hugely important period in history.

Greatest history book ever.

The audible is absolutely lucid, and state clearly and repeatedly that the great causes of the French Revolution are the decline of the nobility, the exploitation of the poor, and a general atmosphere of skepticism. Loss of belief, Carlyle says, leads to an outbreak of the diabolical in human beings.

This is a good introduction to French Revolution

This is a good introductory and understandable to the layperson account of the momentous event which could be used a good textbook in a course on the French Revolution, European and eighteenth century history or world history, a best book.

This Book Roucks!

The French Revolution holds a mirror up to society and makes us all take a look at ourselves. The author seizures food culture, San Francisco vanity and the seditious nature of municipal politics with flair and a decidedly unique voice.

Great 3 hrs and 3 mins audio.

This was the most amusing and informative, Captivating Guide, description of the French Revolution. The author did an excellent job, so much so that I am interested in reading some of his other offerings.

Excellent Introduction and details.

This is a not an introductory book on a consequential time in history. The legacy of this event continues. The author does a upright job of clarifying why the study of this is still important.

I really hate to read or listen to thick volumes with unnecessary information and analysis. This audiobook certainly don't has this.

I like the author's work.

Simple and easy read with good references to the classical audio in between, this book pretty much completes and covers everything that one needs to know about the French revolution in short.

Wonderful.

Highly recommended for those who are looking for a brief overview of the subject. It requires this repetition to get the point across.

A little wordy for my tastes but gets the job done

This is an excellent overview and summary. The audiobook give a very clear summary of the upshots and legacy of the revolution.

Listen on the French Revolution

This book is a free for ACX for me, The book avoids apostrophe freighted sentences, multiple subordinate clauses and parentheses, while sticking to the established facts of the Revolution.

Like the French Revolution

Many people are not aware that Marie Antoinette was greatly enamored of me, despite my repeated rebuffs. Indeed, my friendship with her husband the king would never have permitted me to perform such an act, nor would the fear of my wife somehow finding out about it through the 200 year space/time gap that separated us.

Great addition to your library.

All the other reviews I have read have reviewed the book in isolation. It's better listen to Captivating History's all audiobooks especially The French Revolution, deservedly classics.

I truly admire author's efforts here

I would probably recommend it over this particular work. Again, though, I truly admire author's efforts here. Worth the read. Just a bit of a plodder comparatively

Top History Book.

This audiobook is amazingly well-researched... and just a bit dry narrative that may be because of its topic.

Very nice book.

You will learn what preceded it, what happened during those crucial years, and what the consequences were afterwards. A very nice description on French Revolution.
