The War that set up WWI and WWII
Want to know the why of WWII? Find the answer in WWI. Want to know the why of WWI. Find the answer in the Franco-Prussian War. The ideas of Blitzkrieg and Total War are first found in this War between France and Prussia (really Germany as we know it today). After the end of the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th Century, France stopped its ancient enemy; England, after a millennia of doing so. Then the French turned to Germany (specifically Prussia) to find its new adversary. And, Prussia turned from Austria to France as its new threat that would culminate in a unified Germany for the first time. When and where did this all occur; The Franco-Prussia War.
