Publisher's Summary

The thrilling new novel featuring Jack West Jr., from the New York Times and number-one international best-selling author!

A ruthless kidnapping.

Jack West Jr. and his family are living happily on their remote farm when Jack is brutally kidnapped, and he awakens in an underground cell to find a masked attacker with a knife charging at him.

The great games.

Jack, it seems, has been chosen - along with a dozen other elite soldiers - to compete in a series of deadly challenges designed to fulfill an ancient ritual.

With the fate of the Earth at stake, he will have to traverse diabolical mazes, fight cruel assassins, and face unimaginable horrors that will test him like he has never been tested before.

To hell and back.

In the process he will discover the mysterious and powerful group of individuals behind it all: the four legendary kingdoms.

He might also discover that he is not the only hero in this place....

Narrator Problems

I'm not a fan of the narrator, personally I feel that he doesn't enhance the story at all.

He is very slow and in my opinion seems to make the dialogue clunky and robotic

Loved it! Perfect for any action adventure fan.

It’s like reading an action movie!
I am a huge fan of both the Jack West Jnr and Scarecrow novels. I have read and listened to them all. They are always different and unpredictable. I think the Narrator Sean Mangan is fantastic and really easy to listen to.

Great Story read by Poor Performer

If you are a fan of Jack West Jr. then you will love this book.

Not as good as previous books but very good!

If you are a fan of Matthew Reilly and have read his other books (highly Recommend all of the others and you should read before this one) then you will not be disappointed.

The Reader is very poor and has only one voice although he tries to do several. Found myself getting frustrated with his constant miss reads and pronunciation. But if you can get past the Reader you will find yourself swept away in another heart pounding, thrilling Jack West Jr. adventure!

A killer crossover!

I don't think it's a spoiler to say this is a crossover book that links the Jack West books to another of Reilly's amazing series. Adding that to an already incredible plot makes for a profoundly action-packed thrill-ride that keeps running strong until the very last page.

According to an author interview at the end of the book, this book helps setup the next 2 (or was it 3?) novels in the West series. That's a lot of prep work. And the next book comes out soon. Can't wait!

Fast paced, but suspend disbelief...

I have been reading Matt Reilly since Area-7, and his writing style has always been prone to chaotic, fast paced action interspersed with campy dialogue. I feel like he reached new heights in "4 Legendary Kingdoms" by going even harder on the insanity of the action, and even cheesier with the dialogue and plot structure. It is an entertaining read for sure, but be prepared to suspend, and at times flat out abandon your disbelief.

The narrator butchers several key character names, and his work with accents is poor when present at all. I found it very difficult to stay engaged in the story when the narrator would mispronounce something every three minutes.

Another exciting adventure, great entertainment

A fantastic continuation of the Jack West Jr adventure. Diverse characters and environments with many twists that make every chapter it's own action packed story.

Disappointing production

I was very excited to see another book in the series. However, this narrator's performance style is a misfit for for this book. This story features an international cast of characters. The narrator occasionally makes what sounds like a half hearted attempt to adopt an accent, but that lasts for just a few words and then all pretense is abandoned. Pronounciations are occasionally disruptive (kiloMEter vs.KILometer) jarring me out of the story and into a confused reality (what did he just say?). All in all, the production feels lazy, which is very disappointing from a series that has previously been so action packed, it was exhausting to read.

Worth the wait

I’ve been a fan of Matthew Reilly since I picked up Ice Station all those years ago. He tends to take a long time between books, but they are always worth the wait. This story is an entertaining, over-the-top action romp that hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. Not much else I can say without spoilers, so I’ll just say, check this one out. If you are like me and a fan of Jack West, you won’t be disappointed.
