Little things wrong with this

This is a pretty good story, although I knew what the solution was long before the resolution--which is unusual because I never make an effort to figure out "whodunit" before the end. This was pretty obvious, though. I liked the reader's voice--but he kept making mistakes. At first I couldn't tell whether the author had used the wrong word or the reader had mispronounced: "endangered" for "engendered," for instance. But then there were lots of others and I decided it was mispronunciations. The author's style is REALLY wordy; he could benefit from some editing. And unfortunately the reader ran sentences together, exacerbating the wordiness issue. He took breaths at awkward times in the paragraphs. Still, the characters were fun; I do wish the men's voices didn't sound so effeminate and the women's voices didn't sound so strained. I sound like I didn't like this book. I liked it. I did not love it. I give it a C+/B-.

Really enjoyed this. A great listen, that kept me gripped all the way through. Highly recommended

a murder mystery, with bells on

at first I thought I wasn't going to like this, but after giving it a chance I really enjoyed it. atmospheric and full of twists and turns, I genuinely did not guess who the killer was. loved the framing device, and it turned out I did it!! I won't explain how that can be the case but if you like Poirot, or sherlock holmes then you should be getting on board with Peregrine Sebastopol.

kept me guessing

I loved this book. I am very partial to spending a sunday afternoon watching an Agatha Christie murder mystery or a sherlock holmes and this reminded me of that. same period setting but with some nice touches of satire which I really liked. I didn't guess who the killer was, although in hindsight perhaps I should have. nicely framed narrative structure and I would urge you to listen carefully from the start.

Really enjoyed this audiobook!

I know a good murder-mystery when I hear it, and I really liked listening to this one.

The writing and narration are very good and I like the twists and turns in this story.

Looking forward to listening to Marc's next Peregrine Sebastopol mystery.

Good old who done it

A good old fashioned murder mystery that starts slowly and builds towards a surprising ending. Some cheeky touches that play on the cliches of the genre and some subtle references to other literary characters made this a clever piece of work. Well worth listening to as very enjoyable.
