In a sweeping saga of music and vengeance, the acclaimed author of The Vampire Chronicles draws listeners into 18th-century Italy, bringing to life the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice, the wild frivolity of Naples, and the magnetic terror of its shadow, Vesuvius. This is the story of the castrati, the exquisite and otherworldly sopranos whose graceful bodies and glorious voices win the adulation of royal courts and grand opera houses throughout Europe. These men are revered as idols - and, at the same time, scorned for all they are not.

Rowan's attempt to escape Lasher and his pursuit of her and their child are at the heart of this extraordinary saga. It is a novel that moves around the globe, backward and forward through time, and between the human and demonic worlds. Its many voices - of women, of men, of demons and angels, present and past - haunt and enchant us. With a dreamlike power, the novel draws us through twilight paths, telling a chillingly hypnotic story of occult and spiritual aspirations and passion.

Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Chopped up too much!
Would you try another book from Anne Rice and/or Courtney B. Vance?
Yes I would
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Feast of All Saints?
It was way too short to really tell the story!
How could the performance have been better?
I need the read the unabridged version of this story. With the way it is chopped up now it doesn't make much sense. Please get the unabridged version. Courtney B. Vance can still read it, but at least give him a chance to do justice to the story.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes indeed! I have read the book and seen the mini series. It was fantastic both times. This version is just too short to do the story justice.
Any additional comments?
I would love to listen to a full version of the reading of this book.

Feast of All Saints
Again, I give this work one star because it is not possible to do this book any justice in a 3 hour time period. It was my fault for not checking to see if it was abridged or unabridged, however, take the time to read the whole book instead of listening to this farce of a book.

This is an excellent book, and the narrator is superb. However, the abridgment is so poorly done that it makes the story very hard to follow. I had read the book several years ago and still found myself totally lost at times while listening.

Is three hours enough?
I listened to this book because my book club selected it. I was intrigued with the characters in the story and the period of history it explores and the performance was very good. Typically, I purchase unabridged book versions but that was not available. Since it was only three hours long, I wonder what all we missed. I feel like I bought the cliff notes and I don't know how I would feel about reading the entire book. Would it be too slow and boring or would it give us more insight into the lives and struggles of our characters?

So disappointing!
This is a great book, and I cannot understand how Courtney made the book so dry. Then there are only four chapters and those are not complete chapters. I wish I paid more attention to the description before I wasted a credit. I normally love the performances, but today I am disappointed! I gave the story five stars because I know the story is great!

Where Are We Going and Why
This is was the saddest read/listen of my life. I am a HUGE Anne Rice fan. And yet, I feel like The Feast of all Saints fell so far short. Courtney B. Vance (the narrator) was amazing. His voice was soothing and kind. Welcoming. He made everything around you stop as you listened to what he was attempting to convey. But the story fell short for me. Unlike Vittorio the Vampire or Interview with a Vampire, The Feast of all Saints was a longwinded diatribe of fear and explanations. While the book is clearly from the point of a young man, it felt more like the inner thoughts of a teenage girl wondering if the boy likes her or not. The book fell very short for me. It was not to par with Anne Rice’s other Vampire works. Maybe someone else will love it?
