Publisher's summary

When Fred formed his own parahuman clan out of necessity, he understood that it was going to come with new responsibilities. Much as he hoped those tasks would center around extra paperwork and perhaps the occasional mandatory class, enough time around the supernatural has taught him to be ready for anything. Or so he thought.

As a freelance accountant for the Agency, Fred soon finds himself being tossed into new, unexpected, and perilous situations. From inventorying ghostly castles, to exploring unsettling amusement parks, to negotiating with dangerous mages, it seems there is no end to the uses for an accountant of Fred's specialty. But dangerous as the new jobs are, the greatest threat may come from the past. An old enemy is making waves once more, an enemy who would go to great lengths to destroy Fred and everyone he loves. And this time, they've brought backup.

Amazingly Mundane and Exciting At The Same Time

This is the 4th book in the Fred, the Vampire Accountant series and let me say that Fred is just as exciting as he was in the first book. Well, let me clarify. Fred is an accountant who is also a vampire. How exciting can the world of an accountant be? Let me tell you, Fred is unique in his boringness in the afterlife. He is calm, personable, and loyal to his friends in every story. He is a good human being and an abnormal vampire, which makes his story worth listening to.
This is a set of stories in the life of Fred that build one upon the next with the ever-growing cast of paranormal characters we have learned to love over the previous 3 books. This time, we get a closer look at the worlds of Neil and Albert, a great Richard and Gideon story, a look into the world of mages with Amy, and finally get to spend some time with Arch. It is great to spend some time with each of these side characters as it builds on the world of Fred.
Having just finished the book, the one person we really didn't get to spend any time with this book is Crystal. Crystal is an amazing character but getting involved with the other characters made me not miss her too much. It isn't until the end that I remembered that I hadn't seen much of one of the best girlfriends ever.
If I had to sell Drew Hayes to you on only one characteristic of all his work it would be his character development, which once again is front and center in this incredible work. Kirby is back for this fourth rendition and nails it once again as the narrator. If you enjoyed, or even suffered through, the Bill the Vampire series, you will love the more mature telling of a similar story that is much more fun and complex than that story. Friendship between the characters is strong and I couldn't help growing in my friendship with this ragtag group of paranormal Americans. It will be a long year until I get to catch up with my friends once again.

Another excellent Fred

Loved this book but - I’m getting a bit tired of how short they are for the money.

Narrator was excellent but sometimes slipped between characters by accident.

The story was good but I felt started a bit too quickly from the last, as if it was two books cut up to make money, which I don’t like.

Still want more but...

Series of short stories makes this great.

For me, what makes this book and this series is that it is really just a set of semi-related short stories. For the setup of a boring accountant vampire, you can't really have a plot stick around for too long without it just becoming a generic action book. And this, dear readers is not what this series is supposed to be.

So yeah, you get a little bit of action and shenanigans, then it moves on to the next story without overstaying its welcome or turning Fred into Vampire Rambo. That my friends is what makes this book.

So if you liked the previous books and are in the mood for a light book, I'd recommend this one to you.

Drew Hayes is a writing machine

Seems like every time I turn around, he’s got another great book out. This one is no exception, and might just be my favourite Fred ever. Recommend.

Sweet and Spooky

Fred has grown so much, and seeing him lead and care for his clan is so fun. Each adventure was exciting and captivating, and the end had me racing to read the next installment.

If you liked the previous books...

This book is like the other books in the series. If you liked the others you will like this, the quality and writing style are very consistent. On the other hand if you disliked the previous books you will dislike this one aswell. It's really terrible. The main character is so PC it's sickening. I don't know why I keep buying them. Maybe it's because despite not being good they at least aren't totally distasteful. I will likely stop with the series here.

Just as funny as the first three!

I devoured this book as soon as it came out. Kirby Heyborne's voice is perfect for the bureaucratically-minded vampire accountant.
The saga of the undead accountant continues with Fred's entry into The Agency's accounting practices and is a joy through and through.

Cant put it down!

I did it again. I listened in one go when I meant to savor it over the course of a few days. Drew continues the story, excellently pulling together issues from the previous books and helping all of the characters grow. If you're a fan of Fred, you'll love this book...and if you're not you probably haven't read the first book yet and should do so soon.

Definitely moving on to book 5

Every book in the series expands the “Fred” universe and we get to learn so much more about all the characters and the world they inhabit. Fun series!
