Publisher's summary

Edinburgh, 1844. Beautiful Aileana Kameron only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. In fact, she's spent the year since her mother died developing her ability to sense the presence of Sithichean, a faery race bent on slaughtering humans. She has a secret mission: to destroy the faery who murdered her mother. But when she learns she's a Falconer, the last in a line of female warriors and the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity, her quest for revenge gets a whole lot more complicated.

The first volume of a trilogy from an exciting new voice in young adult fantasy, this electrifying thriller blends romance and action with steampunk technology and Scottish lore in a deliciously addictive listen.

Fantastic!

The narration was marvelous. The accents, particularly the banshee's, just brought the story to such vivid life. The story itself started a little slowly, but once it picked up I couldn't stop listening!

serious Whispersinc deal but I had mixed feelings

This might have been a it's me, not the book situation so please read my review knowing that you very well might feel differently. I didn't really get the ending... like, I reread and relistened to it 3 times each and still was like hrrr? There were great elements to this book. Honestly, the equation set up some pretty high expectations: turn of the century Scotland peers + fae + steampunk (add in a splash of freaking awesome cover) = fell a bit short of AMAZING for me.

The pace was a little too speedy for me, I wasn't a big fan of the romance and I think the characterization of each character could have been explored a lot more.

However, as I said, there were great elements. The main character was pretty awesome and she definitely handled her awful situation well. The world building was pretty good, especially the steampunk elements. All in all, if you like this type of book, I would give it a chance or at least read the sample (the kindle version is seriously cheap! and Whispersync) as the book keeps a pretty consistent tone.

Best accents ever!

I am so disappointed that the other books in the series are not available (or recorded). This narrator “suits it best” and I don’t want to have to read the others without having her voices!

Why only book 1?

Where is the rest of the audio books for the series?

Loved this book, but I need the rest added.

Falconer, reviewed

Story was very engaging. I enjoyed it very much. characters representations were good. The ending was not clear and left me expecting some sort of closur,. instead of a cliffhanger ending

Kinda-sorta

There was nothing I hated about this book. But nothing that had my heart warming or beating quickly with excitement.

I needed either more fantasy or more romance. I needed less internal dialogue from Aileana. I really think it would have been more of a story if she spoke some of her billions of thoughts.

Not a bad story line, nice world building, and great characters. Just not my jam. And it's a cliffhanger.

Two more? Don't think so.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I thought I'd be able to recommend it, at first, but then I thought the story began to drag pretty badly...too much repetition of the nightmare...too much step by step by step of the heroine's infatuation with her fey mentor. I really didn't pay attention to the fact that it was the first of a trilogy, and I was so ready for an ending when it suddenly didn't. Honestly can't imagine carrying this storyline for two more books.

Would you ever listen to anything by Elizabeth May again?

Maybe.

What aspect of Susan Duerden’s performance would you have changed?

I thought the narration was okay. IMO, most female readers can't pull off male voices without sounding a bit lame.

Could you see The Falconer being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No.

Elizabeth Mays story kept us engaged and enthralled as we crossed state lines. The dynamic voice of Susan Dierdra brought the characters to life.

Fabulous!! Why isn't Book 2 on Audible?!!

Awesome and romantic adventures of Aileanna the Fae Slayer!! Susan Duerden was awesome and I'll hear her voice in my head while I'm physically reading Book 2 because for some unfathomable reason IT DOESN'T HAVE AN AUDIBLE VERSION!!! I can only hope the 3rd book ( due in June ) will have one!! Please!!

The Falconer

The cover intrigued me so I bought it without bothering to see what it was about. It was not what I expected, but I did enjoy listening to the Audible version! The story was well written and very detailed. You could tell the author put a lot of research and planning into the story. Susan Duerden did a nice job in the audio, but since I didn't read the book, but bought the audio instead, I was wondering about a word used primarily at the end of the story. It was pronounced as garlic but I wondered if it was supposed to be Gaelic... probably just a misspelling oversight, but I could be wrong. Not explicit sex, so it can easily be read/listened to, by anyone who loves Fantasy, mystery, & magic.
