Publisher's summary

Although she's an orphan in indentured servitude, 16-year-old Jennifer Strange is pretty good at her job of managing the unpredictable crew at Kazam Mystical Arts Management. She already solved the Dragon Problem, avoided mass destruction by Quarkbeast, and helped save magic in the Ununited Kingdoms. Yet even Jennifer may be defeated when the long-absent Mighty Shandar makes an astonishing appearance and commands her to find the Eye of Zoltar - proclaiming that if she fails, he will eliminate the only two dragons left on earth.

How can a teenage non-magician outdo the greatest sorcerer the world has ever known? But failure is unacceptable, so Jennifer must set off for the mysterious Cadir Idris in the deadly Cambrian Empire - a destination with a fatality index of 50 percent.

With the odds against them, will Jennifer and her traveling companions ever return to the Kingdom of Snodd?

I find myself laughing out loud on occasion

I enjoyed this. I am a big "enjoyer" of puns (just so you know, bad puns are how eye-roll...lol).

It was entertaining and I will definitely listen to it again!

Jasper Fforde never disappoints me

I am utterly entertained and always sad when the book is done. His wit is priceless and he keeps me chuckling as I drive to and from work. I am sure it is concerning to those driving on the roads with me.

Good Fforde

I started this book fearing the third book in the series may have gone a bit soft (as some of the late Thursday Next books seem stretching). It seemed like some rapidly repeated schtick but that ended up being the reestablishment of the continued story line. The book then quickly shifted to good fresh Fforde story telling. Always inventive and fun with plenty for the mind to chew on. Narration is as good as previous Dragon Slayers. Good use of accents and voices.

How does Fforde keep doing it?!?

Absolutely loved the story and the narrator! The characters have depth but the story remains light hearted, even in the midst of challenges the characters face. Funny, smart, and constantly poking at the aristocracy.

wonderfully made story love the characters

the narrator's female voices could get a little grating
but hey who am I to criticize?
I can't do all those voices myself !
just that I had to go in the other room because the princess and once magnificent boo's high voices were bugging my husband and son.
I was enjoying the story too much to care.

Brilliant!

I just finished listening to this for the 2nd time and it was even better than I remembered.
Fforde's brilliant storytelling and humor go perfectly with Jasicki's narrating. I hope there is a new installment soon and with the same narrator.

He's hit his stride with this one

What made the experience of listening to The Eye of Zoltar the most enjoyable?

This series was Fforde's first foray into fantasy (jeez, how alliterative, hahaha).
Anyway, the first 2 books felt a little awkward, but here he has really started to embrace the genre. There are his funny & brilliant touches (a magical tent that swears at itself as it sets itself up) but also some really beautiful fantasy imagery. Mythical beasts, majestic mountains, bizarre tribal rituals, and of course lots of magic. Great series for kids or adults.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Jasicki’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but she is excellent.
