A wife. A mistress. The friendship that saves them both.

When Silicon Valley venture capitalist Ryn Brennan sits down to close the biggest deal of her career, she never imagines finding herself face-to-face with her husband's mistress. But across the negotiating table is Carly Santos—the brilliant scientist and single mom seeking funding for her life-saving startup—a woman who's unknowingly been sharing Ryn's "perfect" husband.

What should destroy both their careers instead becomes the foundation for an unlikely alliance. As Ryn and Carly navigate the sexism in Silicon Valley's male-dominated world, they discover that supporting each other might be their best strategy yet.

Who says the other woman has to be the enemy?

The Exit Strategy gives us two women who are both blindsided by betrayal and facing the kind of gut punch moments that activate every survival instinct we have. What I loved is that neither of them freezes. They stumble, sure because that's what real courage looks like but they also keep moving forward, pivot, recalibrate, and discover a new way of navigating their future. Cameron's storytelling is sharp and she nails something I think a lot of fiction gets wrong: reinvention isn't a shiny, clean highlight reel. It's messy, it's nonlinear, and it requires incredible bravery. If you've ever had to rebuild your life (professionally, personally, or both) while the ground was still shaking under you like California’s famous earthquakes, then this listen is for you.

I really loved Exit Strategy by Lainey Cameron. It was fun, easy to get into, and I zipped right through it. The pacing is great, and the narration makes the characters feel really alive.

I also grew up in Northern California, so it was especially fun to recognize and picture so many of the places she describes. Her writing is engaging and descriptive without feeling heavy, which made it an easy, enjoyable listen.

I’m definitely looking forward to reading more of her books. And honestly, I could totally see this working on screen—it would make a great show or movie
