Classiest Assassin

Gabriel Allon is the best. I love every Silva book as much as the last. They are all so well written and by now I feel I am part of the team. Hopefully they keep sucking Gabriel back in.

Excellent story. Much less predicable.

The past few Silva books have somewhat formulaic. This one was unpredictable and fresh. I loved it

Silva keeps getting better.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

George Guidall is truly masterful in this book. His expressed emotion, dialect and pace of script were perfect. He breathed believable life into each of the characters.

Big twist

I like this book. I like to listen to books in order of publication. Most authors build on their previous work. My brother talked me into listening this one out of order. He said it followed the English Assassin. Silva does build on his previous work and he did make reference to books between The English Assassin and The English Girl but it didn't get in the way.
Silva gave this book a very nice twist. Half way through I thought where in the world is he going with this one. Then he showed us. Nice job.

Another good one

This has become my favorite series. The complex characters. The visits to locals not often if ever described in books. But it is the reminder that the world really is divided into us versus them. The masters of the Soviet Union are still out there. They have always had our downfall as their ultimate goal. They have subservient allies eager to join them in their cause. And we have ours. It will always be so. We need to be more vigilant. It seems to take a Pearl Harbor or a 9-11 to jar us from our comfortable complacency. But once we see the big, bad wolf scamper over the hill, we relax oblivious to the fact that the wolf is just over the hill and waiting for another run at us,

Love the book, Narrator, not so much

I think I've read or listened to almost every book in the series; this is one of the better ones. Interesting plot twists, intriguing new characters, no miraculous escapes that seem random.

I am not a George Guidall (the narrator) fan. I don't like him in the Mitch Rapp series, and the narration here, which requires much more subtlety, is deficient. The British accent is nearly indistinguishable from the French, from the Corsican. Basically, all accents sound the same and all characters sound the same.

For me, Phil Gigante has become Gabriel, and I was looking forward to another elegant read, assuming he was the reader. You know what they say about assuming and the error was mine.

Would I have bought the book if I looked and saw that Guidall was the reader? Probably not, but having listened to it, the story trumped the narration, and I'm glad I did.

So I wrote this as a plea to Silva, or whoever makes these decisions. Your characters and stories are far too subtle for Guidall. Please bring back Gigante, or someone with his breadth and depth. Your stories deserve more.

His Best Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

From start to finish, this is one of Silva's best books. Keeps you interested till the end. Lots of twist and turns. You think you know how it is going to end but BAM !!, another turn.
Serously, a good read.
