Had So Much Potential

The trilogy started off really good. I binged this series, but the last book, The Castle, fell short of my expectations. It just fell apart and I was ready for it to be over. Since I paid a credit for the full trilogy I’m not disappointed for spending the money, but very doubtful I’d ever listen to this again.

she talks too much.

It starts to drone on and on. Too descriptive. Memories over repeated. Anoying.. annoying annoying annoying.

great book

the only thing I didn't like was they never mentioned using any kind of protection while having sex and she never ended up pregnant. I was hoping the whole book that she would become pregnant

Loved the story, a bit wordy. The charators are an enjoyable part of the book.

Prettiest traumatizing

CW: kidnapping, rape, torture, being owned by men, sex trafficking, disassociative catatonic state, love = ownership and power, finding out you were adopted, finding out your parents didn’t love you, child molestation, revenge porn, and incest. When you need hospitalization, but the man who “loves” you doesn’t tell your best friend.

Also, a lot of talk about chess and what the pieces mean. Same for mythology.

I’m not sure how I feel about it. I kind of ended it in my own sort of disassociated catatonic state.

I do like the introduction to Penny. I already bought her books, so I plan to read them soon. I’m not sure if I can read them now. I think I need to be alone for a bit. I think I might need to recover from this book.

Engaging

Dark, exciting, steamy , tragic, and macabre are words that can be used to describe this story. Kylie Stewart’s stilted narration makes listening almost Tragic and macabre.

Just meh- definitely contains triggers

I wanted to like this trilogy but it was just okay. If I wasn’t so stubborn I would have DNF’d.

Loved the story!

I am in love with the story. It's dark and sensual and breathtaking. There were some issues with the narrator misreading / mispronouncing numerous words. That's the only thing that stopped overall five stars.

Narrator is illiterate

Could barely concentrate on the story with all her misread words. Automation instead of automaton. Monumentous instead of momentous, implace-able instead of implacable and about a thousand more. Whoever is hiring these narrators, please can you vet them better?

Must read!

This was intense nail biting thriller with ups and downs twists and turns along the way. Just as Avery's character strengthens and gains courage over the series is just as Gabriel's softens as he falls for her. There are multiple subplots but the chemistry and passion between the two gradually unveils and it is beautiful to watch
