The day you turn 17, the Recruiters come to take you away. And no one ever hears from you again. It’s October 31st. Today, Kress is 16 years old. Tomorrow, she’ll be taken. The good news? So will her best friend Cardyn, and Brohn, the handsome, enigmatic boy she’s avoided all her life. The bad news? Recruitment isn’t what any of them expected. Weeks of training await.

Ridding society of troublesome teens while simultaneously providing much-needed tissues for transplant might be convenient, but its morality has finally been brought into question. Publisher's Summary
For the past 12 years, the Foundation has used an army of programmed child soldiers, the Young Ones, to protect its reign. As one of those soldiers, 17-year-old August does whatever is asked of him, even if it means doing terrible things to his own people. Because August, like the rest of the children, is completely unaware of what he's doing.
But when one small accident leads to a major awakening for August and three other Young Ones, including the beautiful and fierce Elisa, submission is the last thing on their minds, and they soon find themselves at the front of a growing rebellion.
Forced to rediscover who he is, what it means to love, and where he fits in the uprising, all while trying to stay alive, August has his blood-stained hands full. And once he joins in a fight he has little chance of winning, he soon realizes that deception hides behind the most unlikely faces and desperation leads to unthinkable acts.
But all he needs is a crack, and the Foundation will crumble.

I couldn't stop listening!
This was a great dystopian book written in a universe that Laura brought to life. The characters have diverse and enjoyable personalities that made me care what happened to them. The narrator did a great job voicing the characters. The story was so gripping I finished in 2 days! I can't wait to see what happens next!

My Next Scott Brick
Laura Carter has done a good job with a story that has been done before. It’s all here. Politics, action, ethics, good, evil, right, wrong, coming of age, love, religion, all of it written with a touch of parlance that makes it real. The shining light for Carter’s book is her actor. He gives voice with a mezmorizing tone that draws you into the world of Carter’s vision. Clark creates distinct characters. So much so, that you may jump out of your skin at one point as I did . Clark has earned his place with me along side Scott Brick an audible book favorite narrator. I think this actor’s interpretation of Carter’s story is how she intended us to to see her world.

Narration was amazing
The story was decent but it was made significantly better by the narrator. His ability to take on so many characters flawlessly was impressive. I’ll be looking for more books by this narrator.
