Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

chase a dangling carrot, ass
My husband and I love Mark Tufo. Hands down, the Zombie Fallout series rocked our "prepper" socks off! (We even nicknamed our youngest Grandson BT.)
That being said, this is my gripe-
Winter & Cedar's quest to find out WHY their lives suck... WILL NEVER BE ANSWERED.
The 3 book series had so much potential. I loved the characters, the issues that plague them; (at the age of 17, boys march off to die in the never-ending war and its the baby mill for girls, the twists & turns. I also love how easily Tufo can weave Talbot, friends & family, in & out of almost all of his stories.
BOTTOM LINE
My advice: spend a $12 credit on the 1st book in this series, it's worth a credit. The Physic Hotline will be your best bet answering questions YOU WILL have.
SPOILER ALERT: Author's Note, IS the last chapter, book 3. Mark Tufo is sad to say goodbye to Winter, Cedar, blah blah blah WON'T BE FINISHING THIS SERIES... blah blah bloody blah call the physic hotline blah blah blah.... grrrr!

Wanted it to continue
I read and listen to audio books so much that it is not often I come across a book/collection where I become fully immersed in the story and narrative, that I don't want it to end.
I have never read Mark Tufo before but With strong characters and humour throughout kept me interested to find out what happened next, gutted it is all over and will be reading more of his work.
With audio books often times the narrator will either get me hooked to the story or put me right off. Sean Runnette was brilliant and looking forward to hearing more of him.

Story
From birth to death, The War is all the citizens of Dystance know. As children it is drilled into their heads that war is the purpose behind all existence. Winter doesn't agree. She's stumbled across remnants of life the way it was before The War began, and now she longs to be as free as her ancestors. With help from her best friend Cedar and the boy she is forbidden to love, Tallow. She believes she can do it. Winter can see a life beyond the Pickets, beyond the constant hunger and the threat of death, beyond the war machine.
