Same idea as the original but much preferred voice reader

I’ve read the original twice before and was never really committed to quitting. Don’t take this as the book wasn’t effective; it is only as effective as the reader wants to be about quitting. The content itself was quality from the very first reading. It is subtle, don’t expect some crazy magic plot twist. But it is spot on in terms of approach and this is the way to go if you are serious about quitting.

I ‘quit’ for a few months after reading it the first time with half a resolution to not smoke anymore. Obviously, I always knew I’d get back to it because I wasn’t committed. This book isn’t black magic, which is why it’s good! It is logical and real and fundamental in its content.

I listened to the original a second time but the downfall of the original is that it does come off a bit repetitive and arrogantly stubborn with a tone that can be offputting at times. Going through it the second time was more difficult because I already knew its course; and sitting through a few parts didn’t really inspire me to go forward.

But I knew the content was good and it would work when my mind would become resolute in wanting to quit. I knew at that time, this is the only way to go about it for once and for all. I knew having been through the approach, that it’d be the only way to quit not just for a couple of months but for good and for life!

I got to that point a few weeks ago finally. I dread having to listen to it the third time but I needed to come back to it one way or another. So I got this book and am so glad I did! It was a lot easier to go through than the original recording, the readers voice was both soothing and enjoyable. I was surprised by how the idea is still all there but there were so few parts that I thought “it’s the original book with a different voice.” So kudos to Allen Carr for that.

This book isn’t as “for women’s” as I had expected which is good! It does touch on key parts of issues specific to women but it was a lot more subtle than I thought it might be; it didn’t drag on and on like how some things are “for women” so they feel the need to overdo it and drains you out.

Read this, if you’re serious and prefer a more soothing tone than the authors in the original. I’d still go and listen to the original again but now I’d much prefer this audible.

Quitting update: have gotten to that “stage” that Allen talked about in his method. I don’t fight against the urge to smoke anymore - I don’t have the urge. And every now and then when I am with smokers especially friends who I have built a past time with over smoking, I do feel a second of physically reacting to it because smoking was so strongly associated with certain people/social settings. However, they’re not urges like I used to have them from someone just mentioning remotely relating to cigarettes. Even in these settings now, my body goes through about a second or two of a confused state whereby “hey, don’t we usually smoke now?” But I am not resisting against urges because I know I don’t want to have one - my body might be a bit confused because it’s what we’ve been smoking for so long and now we abruptly aren’t and that’s just that. So it’s like WTF what happened there, out of nowhere too - a pack every day to 2 days at most then one day, just nothing.

This is why I say that in the right mind, this would have been the only way out for me. As for cravings, the physical yearning is so so mild compared to the physical withdrawal of say, heroine but more importantly - it is amped up in how you feel towards that little yearning for a cigarette. Since this book removes the urge from your core, if you do it properly, your mind knows that it’s just the nicotine trying not hold onto one of its fav victims. So the actual “cravings/urges” for me are extremely mild to how they used to be - I was a desperate feign, trust me - and every time it comes up, it lasts for about 3 seconds AT MOST because my brain is smarter now to understand the situation with my body and it reacts accordingly, “it’s your little nicotine buddy, trying your attention like a child because it wants it’s feed and playing you hard for it”. Knowing that, the feeling is doesn’t have any fuel and is squashed quickly and easily. Compared to me before - it’s actually amazing that Allen Carr came up and shared such a simple and obvious school of thought on quitting cigarettes yet without it - I’d have no way to imagine myself not a smoker.

I will say this - if you aren’t 100% fully committed to quitting, you won’t. It’s as simple as that. When I came back to it this time, I was finally at that point where I was ready and serious about quitting for good. I knew the first time, that I’d be back on it eventually even though I agreed with everything on the first read of the original.

RIP Allan Carr. Not all heroes wear capes, your life and work have helped millions including myself.

Amazing!

If you could sum up The Easy Way for Women to Stop Smoking in three words, what would they be?

It feels good that a person could be so supportive of the differences for men and women's addictions. I have been struggling with my smoking addiction for years. It wasn't because of anyone elses judgements or reactions to me being a smoker. I just hated that something could be in control of my life and I wasn't able to have the ability to take it or leave it. It was very frustrating that this was the one area of my life I didn't feel strong.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Easy Way for Women to Stop Smoking?

When I realized that I could stop smoking cold turkey and just be done with out any issues and with out having to replace the nicotine and deal with that addiction after the habit of smoking. I was not looking foreward to a long drawn out with drawl cycle. Put them down, about 5 days of mild discomfort, and I am done!

Which scene was your favorite?

When he talks about the different stresses placed on women that are not the same for men. How those stresses work in our addiction cycles. Then how our addictions are connected to our emotions not just a pure physical habit which is why it tends to be more difficult for us to let go.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

The most shocking comment, which he did back up, was that smoker's tend to actually be the alpha's in our culture. It made perfect sense and it sort of helped with some self esteem surrounding this issue for me.

One long infomercial. Save your money.

Wow. Really? I know this is supposedly a good way to quit smoking but this book is absolutely awful. It doesn't deliver on its title at all and is nothing but a big sales pitch for the program, without any ACTUAL advice or tips. Big disappointment.

Amazing Author who has helped millions..!

Any additional comments?

I am not a gambler, but I read now read four books by Allen Carr: On smoking, alcohol, gambling, and debt...because I was so impressed with his unique approach to addictions.

I recently checked out his website. He company offers seminars and online classes around the world. I have a loved one who is a CHAIN SMOKER. He is also OVERWEIGHT...after being a skinny guy for much of his life.

I also have another family member who had a darling figure until she got married and had three children. I am interested in helping both of them.

BTW, on his website and on YouTube are video TESTIMONIALS from celebrities such as: Anthody Hopkins, Aston Kutcher, Ellen Degernes, and Richard Branson. Check them out.

I Stopped Immediately

By the time I had reached the end, I was very eager to smoke my last cigarette. This time feels completely different than any previous failed attempt. I stopped in the middle of PMS (and I’m still b****y) but I can quite easily get through those little meltdowns, those real life things without a cigarette. I don’t even think it would be better or easier to go pick up a pack. That’s the real treasure here. I don’t think things would be better, easier, more pleasurable if I was smoking. I can honestly say I feel completely free from cigarettes. I even bought a copy for my pregnant friend who has been suffering over the loss of them. The Easy Way works.

it actually works!

I listened to the book The first Time and quit smoking for a year. Stupidly I thought I could smoke one cigarette and not become addicted again but I did and smoked for five more years. this was my second time listening to the book and this time it actually made me a non-smoker for life. You can do it too!!!! I'm rooting for you!

Allen Carr is a genius

Allen Carr is the only way I've ever been able to happily stop smoking. I stopped successfully once on his program however when I was very drunk had a cigarette and it put me back in the trap. I've stopped again and this time I know it's for life. I'm so happy to see what life brings to me and I'm so glad that I made the right decision. Smoking has zero place in my life.
