Publisher's Summary

Oliver York returns from war to find his father dead, his finances in arrears, and himself the new Earl of Carlisle. If he doesn't marry an heiress - and fast! - he and his tenants are going to be pitching tents down by the Thames. He definitely shouldn't be trading kisses with a penniless debutante...no matter how captivating she is!

Miss Grace Halton is in England just long enough to satisfy the terms of her dowry. But a marriage of convenience isn't as easy as she'd hoped. Back in America, her ailing mother needs medicine only Grace's dowry can afford. Which means the dashing earl she can't get out of her mind is the one man she can't let into her heart.

Great read and listen..

A young woman from America and an Earl, both in dire need of money, meet at a ball while looking for a rich husband and/or wife, only to be attracted to each other, and having Oliver compromise Grace. Grace wanted to get her dowry from her grandparents so she has to marry and then she’s hoping her new husband will let her go back to America to get her ill mother. And Oliver needs money to rebuild the Earldom his father flittered away. Yeah, it didn’t quite work out for either of them.

This was such a cute story and it was simply amazing how wealthy Oliver and Grace were when all was said and done.

And there was also sex in this story, but it was romantic sex and not erotic.

I was very intrigued with Xavier and his nearly catatonic state in this book so now I’m going to read his book.

As to the narrator: Another great example of just how wonderful Stevie Zimmerman’s narration has become lately. Love her voices and emotional reading. Everyone was English in the story but Grace and Ms. Zimmerman made Grace sound completely American.

Delightful!

This was delightful! A short little bit of fun. Great narration. I'd like it better if it were longer and gave more detail about the secondary characters. But I really enjoy Ms Ridley's work.

I am so enjoying these roguish Dukes.

He needed an heiress, with lots of money. She needed a blood blood, to marry, quickly, who would allow her to return to America, to her sick mother, to nurse her and then bring her back to England.
They felt an attraction, but neither could afford to act on it.
Now, to get the writer's true impact, you need to read the whole story, as it is a wonderful HEA, with all dreams coming true.

Good story. Great ending! 2 people looking for something opposite of each other but end up tied to their desires.

Cute story, okay narration.

This was a cute story albeit a little repetitive at times, especially for a hour book. I liked Oliver and Grace together they made a good match.

The story line was nice with a happily ever after of course. There was a sex scene which was nicely written, not over the top but not rated G either.

As for the narration, I may listen the next book in the series and am hoping there are no american accents in the next one. Stevie Zimmerman is not my favorite narrator or my least but her american accent sounded odd. Otherwise the narration was fine.

Rushed ending

The book was a decent read but tended to be redundant with a far-fetched ending based on what you know about the characters. Unfortunately, I had high expectations from the first novel but was disappointed to discover that the book in its entirety made little sense because of how rushed the ending was. Solid villainous characters undertake a sudden change in behavior that makes little sense in the last 15 minutes of the book. This becomes a huge issue since the entire "happy ending" is based solely on this 180. There was a reasonable brief explanation that we are supposed to buy into however there was so little detail and lack of cohesion in the story that I was left feeling that the book was unfinished and simply did not make any sense except to give the reader a classic fairy tale ending. I don't know how I feel about this book or if I recommend it but the book before this was a fantastic above expectations read. I'm going to try for the third book and cross my fingers. The narrator as always was excellent!

The Earl’s Defiant Wallfower

I listened to this book because of a romance challenge and came in with an open mind. Even though this is definitely not my genre I enjoyed listening to it. There is a bit of a slow start but once it kicks off you’re good to enjoy the rest. The narration was done well and the accent was amazing.
