Publisher's Summary

For countless millennia, no man or beast has ever succeeded in breaching the stone gateway into Girdlegard. Until now....

Abandoned as a child, Tungdil the blacksmith is the only dwarf in a kingdom of men. But when he is sent out into the world to deliver a message and reacquaint himself with his people, the young foundling finds himself thrust into a battle for which he has not been trained.

Not only his own safety, but the life of every man, woman and child in Girdlegard depends upon his ability to embrace his heritage. Although he has many unanswered questions, Tungdil is certain of one thing: no matter where he was raised, he is a true dwarf. And no one has ever questioned the courage of the Dwarves.

I was blown away. My first book from this author and I like it. The reader is mild but good in his voices.

This was an OK story but lacks depth

I purchased this book as I enjoy tales set in the realm of fantasy, where the main character learns how to become the person they are to be. However the issues I had with this book, is that it left certain elements unexplained. Especially in regards to the world the book is set in. It also suffered from fighting scenes becoming very linguistical.

I also felt it killed some of the earlier mentioned characters too soon, which made you wonder why bother having them in the first place. Yet it later on kept characters alive which you felt would die, which reduced the gravity of the tale.

Overall the story was too clean and lacking in any depth.

Epic Fantasy. A must listen.

Beautiful performance and wonderfully written story. An epic tale that draws from the best of fantasy lore but still refreshingly original and exciting. A must buy!

Clichéd Garbage

It's not often I can't finish a book, but this is just clichéd garbage. I don't know if it's the German writing style or the translation, but it reads more like a children's book.

The narration is also flat and monotonous, although the character voices are varied and well done.

Childish

Sorry to be so critical but this book may disappoint you as it has me. The story tries hard but it can't get past the text which may have been the product of Google translate and the narration which sounded more suited to a children's story. Maybe it was meant to be one?

not bad but didnt really do it for me

felt a bit like fantasy writing 101 disjointed plot other than hackneyed "quest to save the world". too much reliance on deus ex machina to get out of every scrape . Very heroic d&d 4th edition death mechanism for characters... get killed, finally, thoroughly, and then as long as your side wins and they dont ignore you you'll be right as rain in a few days .
on the plus side.. the tunnels were a useful plot tool for a change of pace, Tungdil got my empathy, and overall it did keep my attention. And forfing a super-weapon is pretty Dwarvish
