Publisher's Summary

Closet romantic Miss Sarah Crombly has always believed in romance - though her dreams of a happily ever after are dashed with the news her father has gambled away her hand in marriage to none other than James Foxworth, the duke of Pillberton, her old childhood friend and now sworn enemy. Though he may be sinfully handsome, and a duke to boot, Sarah vows to make sure she will never fall in love with him and devises a plan to escape.

James Foxworth has enjoyed a life filled with privilege as befitting of a man of his rank. From the best horseflesh to the finest clothes to more estates than he can count, the duke of Pillberton wants for nothing. There is one thing he desires more than wealth or title: his childhood friend Sarah Crombly, and nothing will stop him.

Seeing an opportunity to set right old wrongs, James sets about winning Sarah's hand in a game of chance, though he finds his prize more resistant to his idea of marriage than he had anticipated. When his wife-to-be disappears, James knows that if he is to earn a second chance, he must find her and win both her trust and her heart.

How can James find a way back into the heart of the only woman he has ever loved? And how will Sarah find a way to forgive him and learn to love him once again?

Irritating

I dislike not finishing a book, but this one irritated me enough to simply stop. I do not recommend this story. I would say the writing is not well suited for the age the author chose to make the characters. The girl seems more like a a school girl than a young woman that has been out for any extended period of time in society. Her high tempers caused irritation in me as a reader rather than understandable empathy for her position.

Terrible

This book had no chemistry between the h/h. They were in love as children and even though they must have changed in the time, there did not seem to be any development of the relationship to show why that love still existed.
I found the heroine very unlovable. She argued just to be in conflict. It was strange that she meets a woman while both were "running away" ( which seemed strange for the times), and they tell each other their reason for their new start. I found the 2 has more chemistry and the heroine was very nice to this strange woman.
The other thing I could not understand is why the heroine kept telling these crazy stories, which were untrue, but the hero did not mind. She just liked to tell lies, but for what reason, I could not figure it out.
All-in-all it was a waste of time and money. Not even if it was a free book! I can't even tell you the end as I fell asleep due to the extent of the boring story.

Disappointing and a bit silly

Not much else to say really. Narration by Zimmerman is OK but the heroin just a bit ridiculous.
