Publisher's summary

Even though running Crewel World keeps Betsy plenty busy, a little extra cash on the side doesn't hurt. So when the local senior complex, Watered Silk, asks her to teach a class on the tricky punch needle technique, Betsy jumps at the opportunity to win over some new customers.

Unfortunately, the business that Betsy drums up is not of the needlework variety. A young woman is found floating in Watered Silk's therapy pool, and Betsy's sleuthing skills are immediately called upon to figure out who drowned her. But the list of suspects is more twisted than any Betsy has encountered before. The young woman had three lovers - each with a motive for the murder. It's up to Betsy to sort out the snarl of romantic entanglements and find a killer.

Great story, worth sitting through awful narration

Unfortunately for some reason or another this book has been read by a different narrator. She's not too bad on the regular reading, but she cannot do voices, they honestly make you cringe.

She even gives Lars some strange Norwegian accent whereas he's only a descendent from what I remember.

But weird voices to absolutely everyone and each of them annoying.

Wanted to hear the book so suffered through it. The story is a good one and makes it worth it.

The story leaves you hanging till the end going back and forth between various suspects. It was one of my favorites by Monica Ferris.

Am really going to miss this series.

Narrator ruined the whole story. Worst I've heard.

This narrator was so bad, if I didn't already know the characters, I would've quit listening in the first two chapters.

THIS NARRATOR IS HORRIBLE

I love this series and enjoyed this book. But the narration by Betsy Bronson was HORRIBLE and frankly a little racist. They should have this re-recorded. The voices for characters beyond the protagonist are either a weird nasal witch voice or a strange low Eeyore voice… it would have been so much better with no “voices” at all. I dont usually have an issue with narration, this was unfortunately exceptionally bad. Thank goodness this is Bronson’s only needlecraft mystery!

Narrator not true to previous ones

I've been listening to all the Betsy Devenshire mysteries. The publisher has used several different narrators and this one is the worst. None of the characters are close to the voices used in previous books and every one is either very nasalized or forced too deep. It was very distracting to the story.

Narrator wasn’t that good

I didn’t like the narrator and the voices she used. It was almost like the voices were charicatures. It was hard to get past. Sorry. Not up to the usual quality.

Narrator threw me off

I have been going through the series, really enjoying each mystery. I hadn't noticed that this book had a different narrator who tried using different voices for the characters. This was totally unnecessary. I started not to finish the book once I realized this but was too invested in the series. I realize that there are a few more title left and if they have the same narrator I will read the book myself.

The Drowning Spool

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, but it would have been much better if narrated by Susan Boyce.
Betty Bronson's interpretation of the voices of Goddy, Betsy, Connor, etc is very poor.

interesting story, failar communityof characters

The 17th book in a pleasant series about the owner of a needlework store, with strong supporting cast of recurring characters. The story is interesting and trails enough red herrings in the form f plausible bad guys to keep the reader guessing .
The narrator of this book, however, is not a good choice. She gives many of he voices an unpleasant nasal quality and many of the people sound as if they had bad head colds .It is sometimes hard to tell male and female speakers apart. . Entirely missing is the light teasing voice of Godwin and Conner’s Irish lilt

Horrible narrator

I had to return this after stopping part of the way
Sorry to say I liked the story but could not tolerate the narrator who was different than previous books I listened to
She was fine for the main character but others like Leah and especially Frey ?spelling was awful
Sorry to the narrator I said this but the author might want to listen and see if she agrees

Really?

What didn’t you like about Betsy Bronson’s performance?

The plot of this story is really good. I have gone through all of the narrators and Betsy Bronson's performance was horrible. I felt like I was listening to a gaggle of small children. You are an adult, speak with tones that depict adult characters. Sure the one for Wilma worked but the remainder were just terrible. Adding this name to my list of don't get the book if she is the narrator.
