Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present. The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. At every turn he finds that sorcery is supreme, while wizards are trained merely to assist and support those who hold the real power - a power based on an evil so deep that few who are living know the truth of its foundation.

The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Fantasy for Any Age
At my request, this audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an -->unbiased<-- review
I found this series has been sort of ageless in its target audience. It's written for anyone. The language is squeaky-clean and I didn't find it lacking in story or action in any way. We have character development and depth, relationships and dialogue, some drama, some crises, and some great lessons to enjoy here. Friendship, sacrifice, trust, teamwork, and I'm sure I can justify hard work as a lesson here too.
No matter how you feel about that, there is always humor to be found here. "Why are you Snoggin the Captain?" was, I thought, a fine example of this. There is a lot to enjoy in this whole series, as in this individual story. I would certainly suggest listening in order for clarity, but this story did well enough on its own, too.
Ayden is a pretty wonderful protagonist and character to follow. I recommend this series! I think that, due to how the plot mostly shies away from some more "adult" topics, I would note that YA is probably the best audience here. I, however, am not "YA" and loved this book plenty :)

An Absolute Delight!
Although The Dragon's Price was the 4th book in the series, it was the first that I had read. The story starts with a brief introduction, so the reader gets an idea about who the characters are and a bit of back story on their world. Ayden Dracre is a 7th son of a 7th son and his mentor is Merlin! These two main characters have a close and comfortable relationship that is fun to follow. I am looking forward to going back and reading books 1-3 to see how their friendship developed and read about their previous adventures.
It is wonderful to find a book (and series) that can be recommended to ages from pre-teen to adults. The writing is not complex, but nor is it juvenile. The story was engaging right from the beginning, and was hard to put down. The characters were well developed and likeable, but not Mary Sues. I found them to be very human, especially Ayden. While Ayden is a teenager, there wasn't any of the teenage angst (so refreshing!), that is seen in many other coming of age series. He is also an excellent role model for kids because he sincerely cares about people and animals. Ayden has a job to do, but he still considers the bigger picture and how his actions (or inaction) will affect others. Merlin is also enjoyable in his role as mentor. Rain Oxford has written him as wise and caring, but not pompous thankfully.
I believe there is a 5th book in the works for this series, but there is no cliffhanger in Dragon's Price and everything is wrapped up, so the reader is not left hanging (thank you Rain!).
Narration: J. Scott Bennett's narration was excellent! He pulled me into the story immediately. He has great pacing and gives each character a distinctive and suitable voice. I will be looking for more books narrated by him.
Fun fact: Both the author and the narrator are teachers. J. Scott Bennet reads to his grade 6 classes. Imagine how amazing it would be to encounter such a teacher in grade school!
And for those who like to know...
Here be dragons, but not sex, foul language, graphic violence or gore.
School librarians please obtain this series for your schools, the kids will love it:).
I'm off to buy the first book on audible, and hard copies of the series for my Mum (a retired elementary school librarian).

Excellent story
I loved this fourth book in the Sorcerer's Saga. The race to save magic and the last female dragon egg continues in earnest, but becomes more complicated as Aiden and Merlin face betrayal and complications. I really enjoyed the growth of the characters and the captivating storyline. Scott Bennett did his usual excellent job with this book, giving the characters individual voices and personalities that have been consistently great in every audiobook in this series. He shows the humour well and brings the story to life. I really enjoyed this book and I hope the author writes more in this great series.

4th book in a promising series
Fans of Terry Brooks will find this a very enjoyable read. This is the fourth book in the series and while I have read none of the others was able to pick it up and thoroughly enjoy it. I actually took this book because I like the genre but mostly because of the narrator who ranks among my favorites. The narrator as always do not disappoint and I found the material to be quite entertaining and I'm very interested in the rest of the series. Take Merlin, dragons, wizards witches seers, sorcerers Warriors mix it all together stir a pot and you are left with a Darned good story. Enjoy! Great 4th book in Series!!!
If you could sum up The Dragon's Price in three words, what would they be?
Delightful, entertaining read.
What did you like best about this story?
How people were able to forgive and forget past hurts without letting it interfear with the present tasks.
Which character – as performed by J. Scott Bennett – was your favorite?
Ayden - he was sometimes very long winded about things and needed to be reminded to stay on track. I feel like that at times.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I reallly liked the ending where Ayden works to relieve Merlin of his curse only to find out what the "price" for it was. Will be interesting to see if there is another book whether they swap situations or not.
Any additional comments?

Don't miss this one!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'm a relative noob to the sci fi/fantasy genre - only the past year or so. But I will say, The Sorcerers Saga is one of the books who I can blame (thank 😋) for introducing me to this genre. The characters are fun, the world building is great but not too complicated and doesn't take itself too seriously.
As most of my book reading friends are not sci fi/ fantasy fan - YES I would definitely recommend this book. If you're going to start anywhere to begin your journey into this genre THE SORCERERS SAGA series is a perfec place to begin. (And maybe finally they will believe me that book with dragons and wizards really are fun!)
What did you like best about this story?
Ayden and Merlin.
What does J. Scott Bennett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
J. Scott Bennett IS everything! These characters wouldn't be brought to life the same if it was anyone else reading.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could, I would. My 9 and 5 years think differently lol

Fun fantasy for all ages
This is such a good book. I've listened to the first four in the series, and they are "quality" all the way through. I never would have thought I would enjoy this genre, but after getting started on the series as a way to listen to books with my kids, I found that I'm really hooked on the series. This book has interesting characters put in exciting situations. I listened to the Audible audio version narrated by J. Scott Bennett, and he is just wonderful as the narrator. He gives unique voices to each of the characters and really sets the stage for the whole book. If you are a fan of medieval fantasy, I highly recommend this book (as well as the rest in the series).

Another Must Read!
If you could sum up The Dragon's Price in three words, what would they be?
Great for YA to adult
Who was your favorite character and why?
I can relate to Ayden. Especially when explanations become long winded! My mind tends to wonder too!
What about J. Scott Bennett’s performance did you like?
J. Scott Bennett is a wonderful reader. I love his voice and he makes the characters come alive.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Fun fantasy for all ages
Any additional comments?
I received this book as a gift from the narrator. I loved this whole series as well as the Elemental series from Rain Oxford

A good fantasy series
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Often times it is very difficult to get into a series starting with the 4th book. This series, or at least this book in it, does an excellent job of providing an introduction that gives you a high level overview of the first 3 books so you're not just flying blind. The characters were engaging, the story was entertaining and the narration was very good. I am actually considering picking up the first 3.

The main character is very likeable and I love their interactions with the other character s especially their mentor. All of the dialogue is good, the pacing of the story keeps things moving and interesting thought out. I love all the little references and saying that the main character does not get but us the readers will and impressively given the characters involved it is not fourth wall breaking. The world craft, all the different types of magic, powers and creatures all point to a well thought out world that I would love to know more about.
Narration
J. Scott Bennett narration is clear, easy to listen to and makes the story interesting and really pulls you into the world and the story. When it comes to voicing the characters they do an excellent job giving each a unique voice and combating their emotions well. The Voice of the main character is perfect. I would happily listen to more books narrated by them.
Overview
Rain Oxford has clearly put a lot of work into every aspect of this, the story, the world, the characters and it shows dividend in this very enjoyable story. This is a great story in an interesting setting with great characters. I very much enjoyed my time with this story and would recommend it anyone that likes stories of magical worlds and adventure.
