Publisher's summary

Gary Leger had longed to return to the realm of Faerie ever since the day he left. In that mystical world hidden behind his house, life was very different. But at least there was beauty and peace.

But things have changed since Gary's last visit. The sacred armor and magical spear of the land's greatest hero are missing. A wicked king is threatening war on the villages. A banished witch is plotting a scheme. And a dragon who should be banished is burning up the countryside.

Now Gary must traverse the enchanted land to battle the shadows of evil. But this time his journey will take him where no man has gone before - into the lair of the dragon himself!

Critic reviews

"Gary has a lively time of it in Faerie, which Salvatore recaptures with verve and wit and many nice touches, such as the constant arguments between the humane Gary and his bloodthirsty, magical lance. A classic tale of humans caught in the toils of Faerie, certain to retain its predecessor's audience." ( Booklist)

Couldn't put it down.

A month has passed since Gary Leger, Hero of The Woods Out Back, helped the stern elf Kelcey complete his life quest to reforge the ancient, magical spear once wielded by the land of Fairy's long-dead hero. Now, however, the spear and its accompanying suit of armor have gone missing and the land's wicked king is up in arms. Even worse, Robert te Dragon, whose fiery breath alone enabled the reforging, is raiding the nearby villages and towns despite having been banished to his castle for a century. And as if that weren't enough, the evil sorceress Ceredwin, also banished to her palace by the hand of Gary himself, is seeking a way to end her exile early.
After an investigation reveals that the artifacts were in fact taken by the Leprechaun Mickey McMickey, who tells Kelcey that the reason for Robert's being out and about was de to a dagger that Gary accidentally took from the dragon's treasury during their last visit.
Back on Earth, five years have passed for Gary, who has been hoping to return to Fairy for another adventure. Given the upheavals in Fairy, he might just find himself taking up the legendary spear once again. But will it be enough to combat the evils threatening Fairy?
Once again Bob Salvatore delivers an excellent tale and narrator Paul Boehmer does a fine job of bringing it to life, even better than he did the first one. Whereas there he occasionally had some problems with consistent pronunciation of character names, those are all but gone here. Definitely not a waste of the credit I spent on it. I couldn't put it down for long.

Fun adventure!

At first I thought the book was really short, with how quickly I went through it but nope it just really captured my attention. I like these characters. It was fun to listen to and felt like a good table top adventure.
