The background music isn't that bad

I purchased this version with the background music and effects because it wast the only version available in my country. It is true it is too loud sometimes but overall I liked it – it does enhance the experience. one may aruge it adds unnecessary interpretation to the book, but I think it was done right.

As for the narrator I agree with others he is great.

As for the story, I am still in the middle of the second book, but so far it has everything I want: Likeable characters (no one is an idiot, even when the young ones being childish), great world-building (in terms of politics, history, humanoid races, etc), very good prose (without dwelling in endless descriptions) and a story that is surprising enough and well interwoven but without being nasty towards the readers in order to be different and untraditional. my only complaint is the overuse of coincidences but I am willing to forgive the writer for that because I enjoy this book so much.

the sounds effects are poorly added, and instead of enhancing the experience are hindering it.
It is sometimes hard to hear or understand the narrator above the music.

interesting world-building

I'm not attached to the characters yet so I hope -if I continue- book #2 does that for me. The narration is abysmal, though. He did not distinguish voices very well (Binabik sounds like Morgenes) and his "foreign" accents are very strange as he affects a similar cadence for all of them that I feel affects his delivery of the dialogue. That brings me to the next point, which is his interpretation of the character's emotions. It feels like it's not true to what thry should be feeling, like sounding bright when they should be sullen or other detailed interpretations like that. The music tracks were a bit loud but I could mostly hear the narration when I use my earphones so I recommend using a headset. The mixing is still not the best.

Felt Like I was in Osten Ard Myself!

A great start to the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series of Tad Williams! The music, sound effects, and ambience made the listening experience more immersive -- felt as though you're in the world of Osten Ard with Simon himself haha. Looking forward to listening to the Booktrack versions of Stone of Farewell and Green Angel Tower! :)

This really came through great!

Amazing book and great story. Hands down to the author who did fantastically in writing this book. I wasn't sure at first why I was hearing things aside from the narrator (not sure what to expect when i heard music in the background.) but then as I went on listening, it came together as the addition of the music and background music added impact in capturing the story. It was easy to understand even when I was doing something else aside from listening.
