For as long as I can remember, and even further back than that, the Dragons of Serai have worshiped a goddess and only her. But everything has changed. A god has risen. Shortly after my arrival, Karadas, the Dragon God of the Moon and Water, demanded a sacrifice—a man willing to give himself completely to our god and serve him in every way. Although the Sacrifice would be a servant to the God, he would hold a status even higher than that of a king. Dragons vied for the position, lining up every day at his temple to be considered. I did not go. I knew there was no chance of the God choosing me.

And yet, that's exactly what happened.

Karadas chose me. I'm honored and overjoyed to be chosen. I know that serving him will bring me undreamed of pleasure. It will free me from my family and give me a chance at a new life. But I'm not a fool. I also know that his interest will wane, and he will eventually choose another. He's my god, the most beautiful being I've ever seen and more powerful than anyone on Serai. I will surely fall in love with him. And he will, just as surely, destroy my heart. Pain is coming, a lot of it, but that's nothing new for me. I will glory in the pleasure and not think about the agony that will come when I cease to be the Dragon God's Sacrifice.

These are great.

all the books so far in this series have been great. this one my favorite so far. they honestly deserve better than a virtual house though.

the ending was great, but it took so long to get to it, the idea of unhealthy relationships was promoted.

So…

I’m glad I read the reviews on kindle. I’m fairly certain listening to this all the way through would be both stressful and dissatisfying (apparently all of the icky behavior on Karadas’ part just kind of magically evaporates, everyone forgives and forgets after we learn the reasons for his behavior).
So, if you want to get to book five (which kindle says is much better) I recommend listening through the first sex scene, stop, then listen to the last three chapters.
I mean yeah, there are going to be details missing, but I think a) it’s worth it to avoid hurt/comfort without the comfort bit, and b) those details can be inferred or just aren’t that important.
You get enough context to understand the next book without having to listen to what seems like a pretty bad time :)

3/4 of the book is one long repetitive intimate moments. I enjoy the series and I am moving on to the next book. The book was not my favorite, but I don’t regret listening.
