Publisher's Summary

In The Double Life of Fidel Castro, one of Castro's soldiers of 17 years breaks his silence and shares his memoir of years of service, and eventual imprisonment and torture for displeasing the notorious dictator, and his dramatic escape from Cuba.

Responsible for protecting the lider maximo for two decades, Juan Reinaldo Sanchez was party to his secret life - because everything around Castro was hidden. From the ghost town in which guerrillas from several continents were trained, to his immense personal fortune - including a huge property portfolio, a secret paradise island, and seizure of public money - as well as his relationship with his family and his nine children from five different partners.

Sanchez's tell-all exposé reveals countless state secrets and the many sides of the Cuban monarch: genius war leader in Nicaragua and Angola, paranoid autocrat at home, master spy, Machiavellian diplomat, and accomplice to drug traffickers. This extraordinary testimony makes us re-examine everything we thought we knew about the Cuban story and Fidel Castro Ruz.

Fidel's Bodyguard

Interesting....albeit a one- sided, believable within the framework of the author's position and his occasional suppositions. The readers's voice did not contribute to the believability of the book and not suitable to the narrative....he sounded young, American and naive, unlike the Cuban soldier he was portraying

Great Book!

The audible book kept my interest all the way through. What, an amazing story. I was sadden to find out that the author Juan Reinaldo Sanchez had passed away 3 weeks before the English version of the book was published.

An excellent look at a man I knew little about.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would for the history and facinating info on Castro.

What did you like best about this story?

The information and knowing who was who.

Which character – as performed by Timothy Andrés Pabon – was your favorite?

All of them, especially his take on Castro.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep.

Any additional comments?

A must-have for people wanting to know more about Castro, or history fans in general.

Despicable Castro and Socialism

So many people speak so highly of Castro and Cuba and May have less than an inkling of an idea of what corrupt power is, how it acts and how it maintains power…this is a tale that can shed some light on these important questions that so many breeze over or completely ignore when praising the leader who keeps his people suffering. Socialism sounds so wonderful, but appears to be used in a very manipulating, dictatorial way. I hope more people pick this book up and read it.

A missing piece of world history

A must read especially for Latinos and people of the Caribbean. A must read piece to connect with one of the many missing pieces of the historical puzzle for cubanos and Latinos en general.

Is very sad that this audiobook is available only in English. Given that the first language of the author is Spanish. It would be adequate that this audiobook became available in Spanish.

Amazing.

My grandparents and father left Cuba in 1961 shortly after Castro took power. I have always heard the stories told by them, but haven’t fully grasped the gravity of entire situation or conditions that made them flee their homeland of Cuba
until I listened to this book.

Thank you for making this information available to people.

Historia de película

Realmente es una historia increíble, pensar que eso sucede a diario y que ha venido sucediendo por los últimos 62 años. Es realmente traumático para todo un pueblo tener que vivir de esta manera.
