The Total Depravity of Man

-
Story
While most of us barely begin to even consider the “why” questions, Arthur W. Pink plainly declared the unpopular truth about the root cause of all human maladies. In his incisive way, Pink explained that the reason for the human condition is a spiritual one. Man has been a rebel against his Maker ever since the rebellion of our first parents in the garden of Eden. In this book, there are unique insights into depravity not commonly found in the more modern writings on the topic, as well as very precious truths about the finished work of Jesus in saving sinners.

Arthur W. Pink gets right to the point in this brief but beneficial book. To pray correctly, Christians need clarity, and this book delivers. Doubt as to moral and spiritual truth is distilled through a score of channels. Our seats of learning are hotbeds of agnosticism. Our literature, with rare exceptions, makes light of God and jokes about sacred things. The newspapers, the radio broadcasts, public utterances, and private conversations are steadily but surely removing the foundations of righteousness and destroying what little faith in spiritual things still remain.

The life of Elijah has gripped the thought and imagination of preachers and writers in all ages. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from the earth in a chariot of fire all serve to that end. He comes in like a tempest, who went out like a whirlwind. The first we hear from him is an oath and a threat. It is fitting that the lessons which may be drawn from Elijah's ministry should be presented afresh to our generation.

Who is Satan? Is he real? How did he become the devil? What is he doing now, and how does he work? What is his ultimate end? This fascinating book describes what God reveals about the archenemy of God and of all believers. Using the Bible, Arthur W. Pink lays out, in an engaging and approachable way, who Satan is, and the “gospel” he uses in his many attempts to confuse and confound the ongoing work of our Lord. This short book is especially relevant to our day, as what Pink saw in “the bud” is now in full bloom and producing much evil fruit.

Story
The Death of Death in the Death of Christ is a polemical work designed to show, among other things, that the doctrine of universal redemption is unscriptural and destructive to the Gospel. Those who see no need for doctrinal exactness and have no time for theological debates that show divisions between evangelicals may well regret its reappearance. Some may find the very sound of Owen's thesis so shocking that they will refuse to consider his book at all.

But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

Once upon a time there was a version of our faith that was practically...irresistible. But that was then. Today we preach, teach, write, and communicate as if nothing has changed. As if “The Bible says it” still settles it. It’s time to hit pause on much of what we’re doing and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and humanly speaking, little chance of survival. What did they know that we don’t? What made their faith so compelling, so defensible, so irresistible? Buckle up...you’re about to find out.

She had witnessed God at work and then had dedicated her own life to leading worship as part of the popular Christian band ZOEgirl. All that was deeply challenged when she met a progressive pastor who called himself a hopeful agnostic. Another Gospel? describes the intellectual journey Alisa took over several years as she wrestled with a series of questions.

Publisher's summary
The grand truth of election takes us back to the beginning of all things. It predated the entrance of sin into the world, the fall of man, the incarnation of Christ, and the proclamation of the gospel. A correct understanding of it, especially in its relation to the everlasting covenant, is absolutely essential if we are to be kept from fundamental error. If the foundation be faulty, then the building erected upon it cannot be sound; and if we err in our conceptions of this basic truth, then in just proportion, so will our grasp of all other truth be inaccurate.
This classic text on the subject of election, or predestination to eternal life, is essential for any Christian's library but especially that of the pastor or clergyman.

An excellent book
I truly appreciated the balanced and sensitive approach used in presenting this often-times misunderstood yet vitally important doctrine.
There is an unacceptably high number of people who, in the main, testify of their former Christian walk and experience, yet have abandoned it to become atheistic in their worldview. WHY?
This book provides the answer.
It is a tragic reality of today's Christian church being content with increasing numbers of people attending church, but with little to no genuine discipleship and serious study of the Word of God, as authoritative and true.
How many come every week, yet fail to have a genuine heart-change by God? How many genuinely believe that their church and spiritual experience must be what Christianity is, yet their hearts are, in fact, far from Him?
This is a serious issue that the Christian church worldwide must overcome by genuine discipleship and treasuring God's Word rather than using all manner of human interpretations to try to compromise and sweeten the bitter realities contained therein.

Great book!
This was a very powerful teaching and I believe that every christain should have this book as part of their library and should be read over and over again and shared with others. A lot of people disagree with many things that he said in the book but it's all biblical and just like He said that those that are predestined, the remnant which is the Remnant's remnant, Jesus Christ knows those that belong to him and just like he said in the word, that his sheep knows his voice, and they follow him. So, those who have ears hears what the Spirit is saying to the ones that have been predestined, the election, the ones that have been predestined to be with Jesus. Those who have ears will receive what this teaching is saying to those that truly belong to the church of Jesus Christ and to be encouraged in their faith walk and this journey with our Lord.

Surprised In an Unpleasant Way
A. W. Pink has a good reputation, but this work was a surprising disappointment. Reference to Proverbs 3 does not align with the Jewish perspective. Reference to Anglo-Saxon as elected, over the last 500 years, is not supported by the historical sufferage of women, Native Americans, Africans, Jews and women in the USA. Those who trust in ADONAI are known by their adherence to the Tanakh and love, period.

Story
"Present day conditions," writes Pink, "call loudly for a new examination and new presentation of God's omnipotence, God's sufficiency, God's sovereignty. From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, that God still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed and sufficient resting place for the heart and mind but in The Throne of God.

Story
Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and biblical scholar who was known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings in an era dominated by opposing theological traditions. Pink was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the 20th century. Pink's beliefs and teachings were largely Calvinist- and Puritan-based. Pink clearly brings us a scriptural analysis of what to expect from the second coming of Christ in a truly thought provoking book.

In this work, Pink sets out to reveal the true character of God. He believes that in order to truly know God, we must first submit to God and follow in his footsteps. "The people that do know their God shall be strong" (Dan. 11:32). It is the author's hope that those who listen to these words shall be blessed and see their lives transformed by the power of God.

Story
The life of Elijah has gripped the thought and imagination of preachers and writers in all ages. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from the earth in a chariot of fire all serve to that end. He comes in like a tempest, who went out like a whirlwind. The first we hear from him is an oath and a threat. It is fitting that the lessons which may be drawn from Elijah's ministry should be presented afresh to our generation.

Story
Deny that the Bible is, without any qualifications, the very Word of God, and you are left without any ultimate standard of measurement and without any supreme authority. In his book Divine Inspiration of the Bible, Arthur Pink aspires to defend the groundwork of Christianity - the Bible. Pink defines the Word of God, as the foundation of the Christian religion. The Bible claims to be a divine revelation, and as such, it transcends human productivity. Pink's book examines divine inspiration and presents several arguments which aim to prove that God Almighty is the author of the Bible.
