She was always the one.
Or so I thought.
Turns out my instincts were dead wrong.
Years ago I was faced with the choice between two women. Both were perfect in opposite ways. One was carefree and against commitment. The other was a woman you’d bring home to mom.
I was young, naïve, and stupid. I’m sure you can guess who I chose.
Now, I’m older, wiser, and know what the hell I want.
So, when the same two women pop back into my life, it’s my chance for a do-over. But they flipped the script. Just like me, they want different things now. Leaving me with one choice - convince the woman I want that she wants me too.

I really didn't like how we don't see the MCs bond and get to know each other. There's even a point close to the end where MMC acknowledges he doesn't know a lot about MFC and that he never took her on a date. But there seems to be a lot of connections between the MFC and other characters, including the other roommate. MMC gets jealous of his roommate but then it's just dismissed without ever verbalizing it. Yet MFC is constantly verbalizing her insecurities about someone not in the picture. Also, the idea that MMC was insecure about his intelligence, social cues, his childhood, and constantly not being picked by his exes/feeling like he smothers people when he shows affection grated on me. Nobody but one scene with his mom did anything to help MMC get past that. MFC didn't do anything to help with his insecurities. These issues weren't ever addressed. Even in the epilogue when MMC buys supplies for MFC's business to woo her, she dismisses it, picks a fight over it, and acts like she is loosing independence when MMC hair wants to show support and help.
I hated how everyone acted like MMC did something wrong at the end when the ex showed up. Yet it was MFC who let her insecurities get the better of her and not believe MMC wanted her. He was the one that apologized but he didn't do anything wrong. I was frustrated for MMC bc nobody could let the past go but him.
Also, MMC was sexually free and explorative in other books with his ex. Yet in this book it seems like it wasn't a major part of their relationship. I find it hard to believe that just bc emotions are involved it means he didn't have the same kinks or at least the urge to do more than tender touch. The book was trying so hard to prove the MC's relationship was so different that it made the MMC have different desires and drive completely.
Overall I had a hard time believing the juvenile and insecure connection could develop into something so deep so quickly.
Frustrating repeat drama
