About this listen
A twisting new thriller from the author of The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair.
In the summer of 1994, the quiet seaside town of Orphea reels from the discovery of two brutal murders. Confounding their superiors, two young police officers, Jesse Rosenberg and Derek Scott, crack the case and arrest the murderer, earning themselves handsome promotions and the lasting respect of their colleagues.
But 20 years later, just as he is on the point of taking early retirement, Rosenberg is approached by Stephanie Mailer, a journalist who believes he made a mistake back in 1994 and that the real murderer is still out there, perhaps ready to strike again. Before she can give any more details however, Stephanie Mailer mysteriously disappears without trace and Rosenberg and Scott are forced to confront the awful possibility that her suspicions might have been proved horribly true.
What happened to Stephanie Mailer?
What did she know?
And what really happened in Orphea all those years ago?

Once again Joël Dicker puts on quite a performance with twists, turns, cliffhangers and red herrings galore . . . if you enjoyed The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair . . . you will love this diverting doorstop (Mark Sanderson)

A very tricky story
Enjoyed it since page 1. Loved the way the storyline was put all together. perfectly structured. maybe and just maybe the revelation of the killer could have been shortened by about two chapters. it was exhausting to keep listening that one clue took it to another and to another and to another. I rated 5. It was an excellent book

Too clever but cliche, shallow characters
Too clever but cliche, shallow characters, in contrast to the Harry Q affair. This was just clever.

Amateurish
Disconnected, too many flips back in time, too many characters, too many end of book explanations needed and unneeded. Other than that, it was all I could do not to stop and give up in the middle of the book or earlier.

Just couldn’t finish this book. Has quite a few hours left but couldn’t get myself to listen to the end.
I was simply not feeling it. Sorry…..
