Not so good

BA Paris is one of my favourite authors. This book is nothing like her previous books and it definitely isn’t a thriller. I struggled to get through it and was relieved I made it to the end. A generous 2 stars.

Disappointing!

Like other reviewers, based upon her previous novels, I was expecting more from this author. This book must have something because I stuck with it and I tend to return anything I am not enjoying! That said, right up to the end, I expected more to happen. The premise is fine, but alone, it is not enough to hold-up so many hours. Much of the story is flat and a bit tedious. The narration is very good.

Had me gripped

I really enjoyed this book from the very start. Had me gripped. The reader really feels the emotions from the key characters. Not sure I would have kept it a secret as Adam did but still, an enjoyable read.

Worth a credit.

I don't often listen non-stop, but had this finished in 2 days. Very compelling, and if at times I wondered if Livia was a little shallow, I then wondered if she is just the inner voice of us all in our everyday lives. The interwoven themes of the things we keep from our loved ones, for good or bad, is very reflective of being human. A clever plot that kept me guessing.

A little bit disappointing.

I have loved all of this authors other books and was looking forward to this one.
I was a little disappointed, 2 very selfish parents who are actually over the top obsessed with their 'perfect' daughter Marnie, who turns out not to be so perfect after all! Felt sorry for the son as it was like he may as well not have existed.
By the end of the book I was sick of hearing the name 'Marnie'
Good plot, but dragged on. Could have been a lot better if the characters were more likeable!

I thought it was odd that it couldn't have just been a lavish 40th party Livia wanted and planned for herself, nothing strange about that, plenty of people do it, but the whole 'party she had dreamed of every day for the past 20 years' and it being 'her special day' and 'the wedding she never had' it was unnecessary and a little pathetic. if you want a 40th party, have one!

Agonising and repetitive

Great performances but wasted on a desperately weak story. Characters were illogical and downright boring

Brilliant and Very emotional!

Without giving too much away the two main characters , their thought, feelings and fears are very well developed and you are taken on a twisty emotional journey with them. It’s a gripping listen. I usually only listen when I swim but had to carry on with this as I couldn’t wait. Probably for the best as I prefer not to cry in public!

Oh hell

This is written by one of my favourite authors and I’ve been looking forward to this book for ages. I’ve read over half I think but have to stop. It’s too upsetting. Funny how I can cope with murders but family’s dramas floor me. I suggest you read it though.
