Publisher's summary

Kaitlyn didn’t believe in ghosts - not until one killed her boyfriend and her best friend. Now, she must stop the spirit haunting the Devil’s Tree, or she could be next.

Seventeen-year-old Kaitlyn wants to escape her drunk mama and her trailer park home life to enjoy a Saturday night off work. Instead, her boyfriend Hunter convinces her to go with him and their best friends, Dylan and Keisha, to photograph a desolate tree with an evil past.

A terrifying presence chases them from the tree, killing Hunter and Keisha. Left alive with Dylan, Kaitlyn must struggle with her unexpected romantic feelings for him, come to terms with her loss, and face being trapped in a dead-end town.

Kaitlyn is desperate to put the past to rest, but when their friends’ spirits begin haunting them, she and Dylan have no choice but to seek help from a Catholic priest and attempt to set the trapped spirits free.

Quickly exciting

I got to know the characters really fast. They were off and running and getting into trouble. destroy was very original and really fun to read. I was scared, nervous and emotional throughout this entire book. I highly recommend it.

Should be required reading middle school

Not only is this book intriguing and suspenseful the reader can obtain morality and acceptance positive attitudes making them more open to people of all nationalities, wealth, heritage and family situations. Very well written and kept my interest til the very end. Looked forward to what would be in the next chapter.

Great Story!

Tons of imagery makes this spooky story come to life! A true masterpiece of supernatural and relatable characters. Plus, I loved the underlying message of the power of being non-judgmental.

A slow, derivative slog

I love ghost stories. Listening to this story during the Halloween, I hoped to find something new from a new voice in the genre. Unfortunately, this book was a slow, derivative slog that wasted so much time making the same points that it never got interesting or scary and even when it raced to the conclusion, it couldn’t help itself from rehashing the same tired plot points and cliches it wasted its plot on.

Ashely is poor. Ashley’s momma is a drunk. Ashley’s daddy left. Ashley loved Hunter. Dylan is a nerd. Keisha is black. Ashely lives in a trailer. Dylan’s dad is racist. Ashley doesn’t understand how people can be racist. Ashley’s never gonna get out of this dead end town. These points are driven into your brain ad nauseum for the entire book over and over again. The haunted tree part of the book takes a backseat to Ashley’s endless whining about the points I mentioned above. I wanted to stop reading, but I’m a completist and had to soldier on. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
