Publisher's Summary

Tim Cotton has been a police officer for more than 30 years. The writer in him has always been drawn to the stories of the people he has met along the way. Dealing with the standard issue ne’er-do-wells as a patrol officer, homicide detective, polygraph examiner, and later as the lieutenant in charge of the criminal investigation division certainly provides an interesting backdrop - but more often he writes about the regular folks he encounters, people who need his help, or those who just want to share a joke or even a sad story.

The Detective in the Dooryard is composed of stories about the people, places, and things of Maine. There are sad stories, big events, and even the very mundane, all told from the perspective of a seasoned police officer and in the wry voice of a lifelong Mainer. Many of the stories will leave you chuckling, some will invariably bring tears to your eyes, but all will leave you with a profound sense of hope and positivity.

The small stories are the important stories

As Tim says it. And that is what this is. Comfort in a book. Thoroughly enjoyable. With the added treat of hearing it read by Tim and Ellie. I will be listening to it again soon.

A concentrated dose of kindness

I'd been meaning to read this book for a while, but one thing after another happened and I never got around to it. Well over a year of medical and financial trouble, loss of two apartments, loss of a job I considered my dream, and a struggle to find something else to do left me tired and hurting. I picked up the audio book on a whim on an all-day drive and the kindness and gentle humor that radiate from this book are truly comforting and healing. It was really what I didn't know I needed. I will definitely be listening again and I highly recommend you do the same.

Good man writes great stories

Tim Cotton uses his life and experience both as a police officer and member of his community to make us laugh, think about things in a different light and entertain us. I love listening to him as a narrator as he tells tales “from the jagged edge”. Also a huge fan of his on FB! Highly recommend!

Interesting

This book was very interesting, all the stories and even better, told by the author! Maine was one of my favorite vacation spots, so i enjoyed hearing stories that took me back to that area of the country.

Enjoyable PD stories

I own this book in hard copy but when I saw that it was available to be consumed as read by the author I could t resist.

What an enjoyable book! I laughed so much! As a Mainer, the homey references were gold.

I can’t wait to enjoy Got Warrants with my next credit!!!

TRULY a feel-good work!

Bangor, Maine. Population 33,000. Facebook followers? Over 400,000 - and Tim Cotton is the reason why!!! If you like folks like Mike Rowe, you will lionize the book. The audiobook, though, is - I think - even better. It’s narrated by the author who has ‘perfect pitch’ as these are his writings. If you’ve ever wished you lived in Maine, read or listen to this - and you’ll know why I’m so very proud to call Bangor home.

Not about Policing

Not a lot in here about Policing. Some about a duck. Some about Facebook. Misleading title.
