Geysers. Scalding steam. A canyon that breathes fire.

Devil's Bowl is a chimney. Fire enters the box canyon and the geometry does the rest — swirling winds, unpredictable drafts, flames that reverse direction without warning. Every firefighter in Echo Creek knows you don't go into the Bowl when it's burning.

Five teenagers are in the Bowl. Their radio cuts out mid-sentence.

The fire is bad. The terrain is worse. But the river is something Cal Walker has never seen. Underground fire has heated the water table to boiling. Geysers erupt from the riverbed. Steam vents hiss between algae-slicked boulders. The planned escape route is now the most lethal obstacle on the mountain.

Cal goes in anyway.

The Deep is the third book in the Black Mountain Series — where the mountain's deadliest threat comes from below.

Perhaps a roomful of monkey with typewriters penned these books, which I’m beginning to think is a distinct possibility, mildly impressive but they should still be avoided if one values one’s sanity. AI or delinquent monkeys, either way none so far are worth a single glance.

Oh hell no, asthmatic Emma is back yet again. Knew it was a very stupid idea to even bother peeking at this third book of this idiotic series that likely was written by a severely mentally challenged AI and not set eyes on by a human. A competent one who can actually read at least.

DO NOT DO CPR ON A PATIENT WHO IS BREATHING AND <HAS> A PULSE. Good grief the utter stupidity or blatant ignorance never ceases.

And just for something completely difference it’s five teens trapped in the fire who are rescued. And then not yet rescued. Plus Cal’s teleporter is in action once more, he falls through the rotten floor of his tower (no idea how he got there) and then suddenly he’s in the Dispatch centre. Don’t think I’m going to make it past the end of chapter 3 of this book, it’s as egregiously idiotic and incoherent as the the prior two books.

Thank goodness for KU, I’d be one very angry bunny if I’d had to pay for this or the prior two. Nightmare, incoherent, blatantly ridiculous reads all.

And before you ask, NO, I am definitely NOT going to even waste my time (or sanity) checking out book 4, although I can’t help wondering if asthmatic Emma is once more going to be trapped by wildfire in the stupid Devil’s Bowl - she’s batting three of three so far.

ANOTHER GIANT NOPE IN THIS IDIOTIC SERIES.
