Publisher's summary

The Black Team, an elite special ops team commissioned - off the books - by a United States Senator, eliminates threats to the country in ways that no official government agency can. When newest member Lance West accompanies his partner on a secret mission to Tokyo to gather intel on powerful Hong Kong mafia boss Fen Tsung, the situation deteriorates. Tsung kills West's partner and frames him for the murder.

West is forced to evade mobsters, police, even his own team as he fights to survive long enough to get revenge for his partner's murder and clear his name. His investigation takes him from Tokyo to Hong Kong in pursuit of Tsung and his boss, Qing Xu. But as Lance embarks on the most dangerous mission of his life, he discovers the stakes are even higher than he could have imagined when he uncovers a plot to destroy the U.S. economy.

Gripping action!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Debt Con$piracy to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version but the audio kept up such a strong pace it would be hard for print to do the same - the characters really make a huge difference in driving the pace and excitement.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, it doesn't let up for a moment! The combination of the variety of characters driving the story and pace and the narrator pushing it too is great. The plot in itself flies along. It is a gripping story and you you find yourself listening carefully so you don't miss a thing. Great story.

What does Bob Knowles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bob certainly helps drive the pace with the urgency of his tone and speech. His style is reminiscent of a movie trailer narration so you get really get drawn into that sense of urgency and excitement. His characterisation brings that where you might well not get that from reading it your self.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Intercontinental intrigue and heart stopping action!

Any additional comments?

Action is not really my first choice in genre but I thoroughly enjoyed this piece and couldn't wait to find out what was to happen next. Great listen!

OMG! Felt Like I Was At The Movies!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend! Anyone that loves a story that puts you on edge will love this storyline. It is a typical storyline where the main character is setup for something he didn't do...but it was very interesting to see how the story plays itself out.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Loved Lance - of course. I felt compassion for him from the beginning with him losing a loved one during the Twin Tower attacks. He's a loyal person, with his own demons, but really caring about his team and his work.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed several scenes, but maybe I would say the very first scene in the warehouse. I could literally envision the action like I was watching a movie. I was nervous during the fight scene, even before the attachment to Lance. This action scene set the stage for what I was going to continually be wrapped up in for several hours. Loved that!

Any additional comments?

This was really good writing...wonderful storyline. I was able to keep track of all of the characters - never confused by who was doing what. The actors were great. Great story!!

There are pros and cons to the ensemble style

It took a bit to adjust to listening to the cast perform, but once I got it I enjoyed how, in this style, they could do some layering of voices and sounds and really texture a scene in a way that can't happen with a single narrator. The script also excels in keeping the simultaneous action going. I did miss the level of character background and depth of a longer book, as well the deeper exploration of the title's meaning, but that's just a personal preference. It is written as a screenplay rather than a novel. So I give it good marks for being a different approach to the theme.

Close your eyes. Let the voices take you away...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend 'The Debt Conspiracy' to anyone who loves stories with international intrigue, dangerous action and characters with convoluted motivations. The Black Team of Anti-Terrorist Special Ops has its work cut out for it as duty and loyalty clash with shifting allegiances and secret personal treachery is revealed.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would love more development of personal relationships along with the breakneck action and more physical descriptions to go along with the great voices of the characters.

Which scene was your favorite?

Strangely, I really began to engage with the story when the seductive bar girl slipped the hotel card key for Room 402 under Operative Lance West's drink at Club Combo. You could feel the story getting ready to make a major gear change...and not at all the way you might have expected.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was well-paced but I didn't have any extreme reactions as I listened. I was mostly trying to second-guess where the twists and turns were taking the characters.

Any additional comments?

Very strong cast of voice actors and a nice variety of accents and dialects - Australian for the narration, a wide array of Asian characters (Japanese, Chinese, Thai) + a well-delineated group of American character voices, both male and female. The 'behind the scenes' interview is a plus, as is the "alternate ending" which follows the writer, director, production staff and voice acting talent discussions on how the project was conceived and came together.

Narration-driven format awesome, once I adapted.

What made the experience of listening to The Debt Con$piracy the most enjoyable?

The same thing that made it a mild challenge to get into the story, turned out to be the most awesome effect once I got used to it. The "audiblescript" idea they are presenting a movie script as an multi-cast audioplay. and I like it.One voice actor reads all the backgrounds, action, and scene descriptions... and a team of other voice actors handles each character in the story.-During the first chapter, I had a bit of trouble keeping the narrator's voice in a separate category, but then the whole thing snapped into place, and the script was a fun, *action-film* ride for the rest of the book.-In the end, it was a great escape, and fun mental ride, the whole way.

Which scene was your favorite?

The combat scenes were great to listen to...

The Debt Conspiracy - Action Packed

What did you love best about The Debt Con$piracy?

The excitement as you weren't sure what was going to happen Lots of twists and turns

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Definitely

Have you listened to any of Bob Knowles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. Impressive voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Perhaps not moved me, but sad that the son of Ching felt he had to be such a dirty rotter because of what happened to his father. But there has to be a baddy!

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed listening. Very thrilling story. Sometimes I listened on my laptop and a lot on my kindle in the car so I had to be careful driving!
