In good detective story reader has all the information and has to be able to select the relevant bits and come to a right conclusion. Far too often there is a crucial bit of information that is revealed only to the detective. A mysterious phone call or telegram or letter. Every Poirot case ends with the theatrical reveal. Why would I read the next one if I know I'll have no chance to guess the ending and the best I can hope for is to be taken for a ride.
