Publisher's summary

Daisy McDare is back and better than ever.

Just as things are finally coming together for Daisy's life, another murder strikes the small, coastal town of Cozy Creek. This time a greedy real estate developer is the victim.

At first, Daisy is content to leave this case to the police. She'd rather focus on her interior decorating and her blossoming relationship with her new boyfriend. When Detective Crumple arrests the wrong suspect who also happens to be a friend of Daisy's, she realizes it's up to her to find the real killer before it's too late.

Needs better character development

I agree with another reviewer who said that this book discusses food almost non stop. It's basically in relation to Daisy. Which leads me to my question, is Daisy a toddler or an adult? Because she carries around "chocolate treats" to snack on during stressful times around the clock. No joke, it's referenced about 5 times by chapter 4 how Daisy needs her treats to calm her nerves or soothe her boredom. It's really odd.. a functioning adult can handle life without needing snacks for every small stress. I don't quite understand this character, she seems immature for her age. This shows a lot throughout the story & becomes glaring obvious on a few occasions. Daisy could use some better character development & added depth.

The Deadly Real Estate Affair

The Deadly Real Estate Affair (Daisy McDare #4)
by K.M. Morgan

Thanks K. M. Morgan for the Daisy anthology. At first I was a little skeptical, when I encountered all the cliches. I thought “oh oh” this author hasn't quite “got it”, until I realized the series is one big cliché. After that I relaxed and enjoyed the “who dunnit!” This was a nice “change of pace.”

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Angie Hickman.

Worth it, if only for the food

Would you consider the audio edition of The Deadly Real Estate Affair to be better than the print version?

Yes, because of the accents

Have you listened to any of Angie Hickman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, this is the same as her others, amazing and sassy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really

Any additional comments?

I love the fun and flirty notes in this book, this is the first I've read in the series but it is worth it as a standalone. its not super long, but a nice series to get into if you love cozy mysteries. I received this free book, in return for an unbiased review

Short but likeable cozy mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. It's short enough for anyone to be able to finish in one sitting; it's also enjoyable both when it comes to the plot and the interpretation. The characters are skilfully sketched with a few lines/words and the pace of the story is swift, which is good for a cozy mystery...

What other book might you compare The Deadly Real Estate Affair to and why?

I'd compare it to some stories by Agatha Christie - it has a similar construction: first, expositions of all the characters through dialogues and situations seen or overheard by others, then the crime itself, and then the investigation carried out by the detective mainly through another set of conversations... And although Agatha Christie is a definite master of crime books, I think Ms Morgan is equally enjoyable:)

Which character – as performed by Angie Hickman – was your favorite?

I liked the way Ms Hickman "voiced" Grannie Annie:) She really sounded older than the other women characters.
Generally, compared to other narrators I've listened to so far, Ms Hickman is the one who doesn't act out the text of the book so much. Rather, she just reads it, adding some voice modulations for different characters but not trying to be really "manly" when the male characters appear, which is a good decision here because she has a rather high pitched though really nice female voice. She would have sounded really strange trying to sound like a 50-60-year-old man:)
I also liked the tempo of Ms Hickman's reading - it was quite fast but not too fast for a non-native speaker of English like me to miss anything from the story:)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well, it was funny in places:) I liked the "cupcakes and chocolate" theme coming back in the least expected moments:) And the conversation on "chick flicks" with the police detective was great:)

Enjoyable

Daisy McDare and the Deadly Real Estate Affair (Daisy McDare #4), my fourth read/listen from author K.M. Morgan, although I own sixteen of her books I’d never gotten around to reading one until I read The Deadly Floral Affair. Each book has been better than the one before, a well-written clean cozy mystery. Since I own both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to read along while listening. Narrator Caroline Shively talented narration added to the book's enjoyment. Up next is Daisy McDare and the Deadly Rock Star Affair (Daisy McDare #5). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Meh

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.

Turns out, if something gets repeated every 5 minutes, I get seriously irritated. I had stopped listening to Slaughterhouse Five because of "So It Goes". I stopped listening to this book because of the Chocolate Treat lines. Apparently the main character loves stress eating chocolates.

Fun cozy mystery

This is a fun little cozy mystery, and was my first Daisy McDare audiobook. Aside from just guessing, there really weren't enough clues for me to figure out who the villain was until big secrets were suddenly revealed near the end that gave the answer away. These secrets weren't alluded to or shown via clues. They were just presented because someone had told Daisy "off-screen" about them. It didn't take away from the story, but if you like to try to figure the mystery out yourself, there weren't enough clues for me to do it. Still, I enjoyed listening to the story, and Daisy's spunky spirit and chocolate addiction were fun.

The narration was great. Angie really channels Daisy's spirit and energy. Her depiction of the other characters is great too.

cute and cozy

This story was written by a new author to me. I enjoyed her flowing style, but all of the food references got old. I'm trying to diet and could not get food off my mind. The narrator did a good performance, but I was sidetracked by the constant mention of food. This is a clean and cozy mystery.
