Publisher's Summary

Continuing the impressive debut fantasy series from author Peter V. Brett, The Daylight War is book three of the "Demon Cycle", pulling the reader into a world of demons, darkness and heroes.

On the night of a new moon all shadows deepen. Humanity has thirty days to prepare for the next demon attack, but one month is scarcely enough time to train a village to defend themselves, let alone an entire continent caught in the throes of civil war.

Arlen Bales understands the coreling threat better than anyone. Born ordinary, the demon plague has shaped him into a weapon so powerful he has been given the unwanted title of saviour, and attracted the attention of deadly enemies both above and below ground.

Unlike Arlen, Ahmann Jardir embraces the title of Deliverer. His strength resides not only in the legendary relics he carries, but also in the magic wielded by his first wife, Inevera, a cunning and powerful priestess whose allegiance even Jardir cannot be certain of.

Once Arlen and Jardir were like brothers. Now they are the bitterest of rivals. As humanity's enemies prepare, the only two men capable of defeating them are divided against each other by the most deadly demons of all: those that lurk in the human heart.

Good story

The story is good a little bit to much chopping about the thing i didn't like was the change in narrator when you listen to two books in a series with one narrator and they change it for the third book it seems wrong not that the narrator is bad it is just that you get used to character's sounding one way and when you change that it makes the book sound different

Series with high quality, but...

There is a lot of characters and story uses lots of "cuts" between them in order to advance. Sometimes, the books seems too dense. Mr. Brett has this particular style, where he keeps noting how good, honorable etc. everyone is and the number of forced nudity is (to extend) comical. Other then these, the book was enjoyable!

More politics, less demon-hunting

Title is a rather missleading: no actual war between humans, and too much faction politics.

As amazing as the first two books

Loved it. All the origin stories are so amazing. The ending is such a cliff hanger I can't wait to start the next book!

amazing book. but missing parts in chap 24 :(

loved the book and the narrator. but was disappointed when there was some missing towards the end of chapter 24 during a very intense scene that was moment killing and confusing.

Found the series runs out of steam.

Struggled to finish despite enjoying other books in series. Just found that this book seemed to run out of steam and my interest in the characters driftd off. Found that covering the full history of another character was tiresome.

Fantastic Story

I was at the edge of my seat of most of this. Much as I loathe Renna and think she is a weak character, I just adore the others so much it doesn't even bother me.
The only real negative is Colin Mace for me. He is really good at times but there are some really odd pauses that at times make it difficult to follow. There are also some inconsistencies regarding how he pronounces names though they still stay recognisable so it's not the worst thing.

exciting and compelling

I love it. It was read well. The story in a interwoven lace of stories, that takes you on a ride where you gallop to a cliffhanger with some satisfaction. I will definitely listen again

Excellent Book

everything about this book is WOW. the performance, the story is so relatable for the world just now... it is so in-depth in its description I think that everyone sees that world the same as the author... very clever. I love all the books have listsned twice so far

The Daylight War

I enjoyed the trilogy, however the narrator's constant swallowing was distracting and became quite irritating by the third book.

Not as engaging as the previous 2

Lets start with the first third of this book basically retelling the previous book from a slightly different viewpoint, not exactly bringing massive revelations with it. That was frustrating.
Oh and the sex scenes, wow the sex scenes! Yes it's never been a shy series but I genuinely think the author is sexually frustrated! I had to smile to myself as I noticed it got cruder as the book went on and the author got braver (or more likely hornier!), we start off with cutesy innuendos like "spear" before turning things straight up to 11 with c***! Over the top and unnecessary, I actually laughed out loud on a couple of occasions with excessive it was.
Reading the reviews for the fourth book I will probably skip straight to the final one, as I do want to see how it all wraps up, but really can't be bothered listening to another 24 hours worth of filler!

The time for sharrusakh has come!

This book was awesome, or rather arlen and jardir’s parts were awesome and leesha and inevra were boring. Still, all the cool magic and fight scenes made up for the dull parts and soap opera drama

Great Series!

I am really enjoying this series and like how the different points of views are portrayed.

Peter V. Brett is a fantastic author. Mayhaps enjoys cliffhangers too much! keen to read/hear the next book.

I know some people have given the narrator a bad review but I enjoy his narration style and appreciate how he does different accents for different characters.

this is good. really good.

this story is original, ties in nicely with our own time lines on history and entertains. It has bypassed the traditional boy meets girl storyline nicely too.
