Publisher's summary

The news has been full of headlines, whether watching on television, reading on a webpage, or following them through an online app. The world is in a 24/7 news cycle that none of us can escape from, unless we literally go off the grid. If you are someone who is a news junkie and gets excited about the latest headlines, then you were probably intrigued by the events that occurred in late January related to GameStop and other retail stocks. Those who followed the events closely enough understood that a group of retail day traders, who communicated via social media and other online forums, caused one of the biggest stock market frenzies in recent times. Of course, not many individuals understand the events that led up to the frenzy, why small-time investors targeted companies like GameStop, or what the fallout of the situation was. If you have been intrigued by the fiasco surrounding GameStop since you first heard about it, then you have come to the right place.

In this book, The Day Wall Street Lost: The GameStop Story, I will go into great detail regarding the historical moment that may have changed the way Wall Street does business from now on. As you listen to the chapters of this book, you will receive:

  • A summary of the rise and fall of GameStop and other retail companies, like AMC, Nokia, Naked, and BlackBerry
  • What hedge fund managers had in mind as far as short-selling GameStop, and what this strategy actually entails
  • How small-time retail investors countered the hedge fund managers and altered their plans, sending many of them backpedaling and searching for answers
  • What role the trading app, Robinhood, played in creating more controversy
  • How Wall Street, lawmakers, and other public figures responded to the entire circumstance
  • The aftermath and how institutional investors may change their methods in response to the rise of day traders

You will not receive direct financial or investment advice from me, as this was not my goal with the book. If you are ready to dissect the headlines that came across the airwaves in late January 2021 that shocked the public and investors alike, I can promise you a thorough description of the fiasco surrounding GameStop. If that’s the case, this book will truly open your eyes to what happened.

Great explanation of the GameStop situation

This book has a lot of great background on the GameStop short squeeze situation. I knew what happened on a surface level but this book provided much more on the events leading to what happened as well as solid research on similar companies and key players that were related to the short squeeze. If you’re interested in the stock market this is a good read.
