Publisher's summary

If you love mysteries with action, suspense and a touch of humor and romance, then the David Wolf series is for you.

Foreign Deceit

Sergeant David Wolf of the Sluice County SD headquartered in the ski resort town of Rocky Points, Colorado, receives word that his brother has committed suicide in the Alps of Italy.

The Silversmith

Deputy Sergeant David Wolf has been waiting sixteen years for today's opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his late father and become Sheriff of the Sluice County SD, headquartered in the small ski resort town of Rocky Points, Colorado. What he's offered, however, isn't quite what he's expecting. And for Wolf, refusing turns out to be harder, and much deadlier, than he could have anticipated.

Alive and Killing

Just for a day, Colorado Sheriff David Wolf trades slogging through murky meltwaters and even murkier small-town politics for an overnight camping trip in the wilderness with his son.

But when a man with fresh burns turns up on their trail, falling from the heavy load in his backpack and running wild from something, Wolf suspects his father-son camping trip may have just taken a turn for the worse.

Deadly Conditions

The small town of Rocky Points, Colorado has just been hit with an epic snowstorm. When the snow removal process uncovers a dead body — a young woman brutally murdered and clearly marked with some sort of cryptic message — Sheriff David Wolf and his deputies are left scrambling to find a killer before he strikes again.

Plenty of good listening with four books in one!

I've been looking at this series for quite a while and finally decided to give it a try. Especially with the first four books sold together I figured I couldn't go too wrong even if the series was only middle of the road. I am very happy to say these books are much better then I had anticipated.
So far the David Wolf series is very well written. These are police procedurals with believable characters and plausible situations. The stories are interesting and suspenseful. The protagonist, David Wolf is very likable and engaging. With this box set being 28 hours and 14 minutes, that's a good thing!
This is a series I will complete with out hesitation.
Sean Patrick Hopkins does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good, solid, Western mystery.

If you like Longmire or other Western, “macho” mysteries you’ll like these. Great driving stories that even kept my husband interested.

Disappointing

Looks like the chapters were mixed up since it started half way in the middle of book 1 and after a few hours circled back to the beginning. The audio performance was good, but the story left much to be desired. Sloppy errors and in the story line made it feel fake and unreal.

Out of order / Disappointed

After intro it skips to chapter 11. Story hard to understand who what where how and why probably due to missing Chapters 1-10.

Reader has little emotional difference between characters. Flat affect. I’ve begun this book twice and can’t seem to get hooked.

Great read and listen..

FOREIGN DECEIT

After going to Italy to look into his brother’s supposed suicide and bringing him home for burial, that was where most of this book’s excitement happened. I was surprised at who had actually killed his brother. And I really liked the female Italian cop, Lia, too. Then he came home and solved another death so I thought for sure he’d be given the Sheriff’s positon BUT that wasn’t to be. I guess we had to put up with Derek’s nonsense for a while. See how much trouble he can get himself into before the town council finds out what a mistake they made, or someone kills him.

There was no sex. Except fade-to-black. The F-bomb was used a TOTAL of 29 times in all FOUR books.

THE SILVERSMITH

OMG! David was in so much trouble in this story. The entire sheriff’s department was after him, with orders to shoot first and ask questions later AND Young, the ex-Navy SEAL killer, was trying his best to kill David, too. It was truly so exciting.

(((There are 11 David Wolf books on audible but I can’t see myself spending almost $85 for them, which is a shame. Doesn’t audible think we’ll add up all those $7.49’s and think, “oh, heck no.” I guess they’d rather sell ONE book for $7.49 than to sell 10 books for $1.99 or $2.99. Doesn’t make a bit of sense to me.

No sex, not even a kiss and the F-bomb was used a TOTAL of 29 times in all FOUR books.

ALIVE AND KILLING

WOW! This one was intense. If I remember correctly there were 4 murders, that all had to do with some stolen gold. AND, OMG. I don’t think I would want to be David’s 12 year old son, Jack. First they have to run for their lives through the woods then Jack has a gun battle with the bad guys while his injured dad does his best to get the truck started and not pass out THEN later on Jack is kidnapped and is only seconds from being killed. Whew!

No sex but there is a kiss and I think David has a new girlfriend. The F-bomb was used a TOTAL of 29 times in all FOUR books.

Okay, on to the last book.

DEADLY CONDITIONS

This was a great series. It’s not often that all the good guys seem so real. All the deputies, as well as Sheriff David Wolf, were all so brave and when they got shot they healed and went right back out there. And their love and respect for David was something else entirely. Everyone just knew that whatever happened David was going to have their backs.

I was soooo happy when David stopped dipping snuff, along with Rachett, by the second or third book. There’s nothing more disgusting than that.

OK, so Ash was part of the town council and he was someone you really liked to hate. The way he treated his ex-wife and his son was terrible. And for Ash it was all about money and how many bribes he could take.

There was another 3 or 4 murders and a suicide in this story. It was really exciting all the way through.

There was no sex and the F-bomb was used a TOTAL of 29 times in all FOUR books.

AS to the narrator: Sean Patrick Hopkins was 95% perfect. His male voices and emotions were awesome but his female voices need some work. BUT as I've said before, I can put up with a female with a deeper voice but NOT a man that sounds like a girl.

Meh...

It's not like it was awful... But medium story, gendered stereotypes and monotone narration, well...
