Story
As Dash and his team begin expanding the Forge, they must focus on Dark Metal as the one thing that can give them an advantage in the coming war. Using drones and a map from an ancient library, Dash and Leira must seek out the source of a transmission coming from far away. That source, however, is something far more valuable than they could have hoped: a fleet of ancient Unseen ships, waiting to be salvaged.

Publisher's Summary
The Messenger must prepare for war.
With the Archetype damaged, Dash and his crew will need more than a quick fix to prepare for what's coming.
A secret facility known only as the Forge lies in cold sleep, built by the Unseen for the greatest war in history. Dash has no idea what awaits him there, but he hopes to find some kind of advantage in the war that is to come.
Meanwhile, on a distant world, an ancient order of monks protects a long-buried secret. They have guarded it for centuries, all in the hope that someday the Messenger might come and relieve them of their task.
Dash has answered that call...and he will not be denied.

great job again with the book. I love it
you feel like Dash is an Idoit by not using the weapons he has to fight because he thinks there useless for fighting mechs even though he's never fought one so he just punches it. then when that fails he uses the weapons he has and it kills it with 1 slice.

A Quality Drop
Quality drop off in this second book, a Mech that is not so much of a kick ass mech. Dash clearly still cannot see the waaay bigger picture and it not actively recruiting a army to help him or even letting the galactic police know something is up. Because other worlds would want to fking know some beings out there are hell bent on destroying the universe. Maybe some civilizations would want to help out. But hey, stick with your hand full of people and a a busted ass Mech that seems not to evade any god damn thing tossed at it and is nearly a busted ass robot after every little fight that is NOT the Golden.

Book 2 declines into emotion based rants
The focus of the story becomes the Dash characters purely emotional response to every plot complication. Dash is defined as character unable to comprehend anything technical or relating to physics. His Cussing and yelling with imaginary macho bravado is used as filler wherever possible..

Conversations make this book drag
I had to skip over portions of this book because the conversations between the characters and with themselves in situations where they shouldn't be talking as much as they do made the action drag on to the point where the exciting parts of the book were pretty boring. The decisions that are made by some of the characters seem to only add to the book length instead of adding any sense of anticipation or progression. It was hard for me to care much about the characters. Overall I was more frustrated listening to this book than entertained. The story concept is great but the execution is lacking.
