Publisher's Summary

This program is read by Alex Hyde-White, William Dufris, Hillary Huber, Nanette Gartrell, Leonard L. Glass, Luba Kessler, Bandy X. Lee, Elizabeth Mika, P. J. Ochlan, Jennifer Contarino Panning, Thomas Singer, Rosemary Sword, Michael J. Tansey, Betty P. Teng, and Steve Wruble.

The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump describes the consensus view held by two dozen psychiatrists and psychologists that Donald Trump is dangerously mentally ill and that he presents a clear and present danger to the nation and our own mental health.

This is not normal.

Since the start of Donald Trump's presidential run, one question has quietly but urgently permeated the observations of concerned citizens: What is wrong with him? Constrained by the American Psychiatric Association's "Goldwater rule", which inhibits mental health professionals from diagnosing public figures they have not personally examined, many of those qualified to answer this question have shied away from discussing the issue at all. The public has thus been left to wonder whether he is mad, bad, or both.

In The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, 27 psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health experts argue that, in Mr. Trump's case, their moral and civic "duty to warn" America supersedes professional neutrality. They then explore Trump's symptoms and potentially relevant diagnoses to find a complex, if also dangerously mad, man.

Philip Zimbardo and Rosemary Sword, for instance, explain Trump's impulsivity in terms of "unbridled and extreme present hedonism." Craig Malkin speaks about pathological narcissism and politics as a lethal mix. Gail Sheehy, on a lack of trust that exceeds paranoia. Lance Dodes, on sociopathy. Robert Jay Lifton, on the "malignant normality" that can set in everyday life if psychiatrists do not speak up.

His madness is catching, too. From the trauma people have experienced under the Trump administration to the cult-like characteristics of his followers, he has created unprecedented mental health consequences across our nation and beyond.

It's not all in our heads. It's in his.

Expertly compiled by author and editor Bandy X. Lee, this insightful audiobook is mental fuel for the concerned, contemplative listener.

This is scary stuff!

I have often reacted to things that our president has done or said by thinking that this is just not normal. This book, authored by 27+ professionals with sufficient medical credentials to make that assessment, confirms those fears. The contributors to this book offer their professional opinion, based on the presidents own statements and actions, that Trump may not be just an unconventional president, but a sick one. None of the contributors have done an actual examination of the president, but with the wealth of video and audio available through todays 24/7 news reporting, these experts each independently reached a unanimous conclusion that the president's current state exceeds "not normal" and approaches a level of psychosis. This book is both truly entertaining and scary!

Disappointng

If you could sum up The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump in three words, what would they be?

The authors argue that the standard ethical restraint against diagnosing political figures with whom they have no clinical relationship, should not apply in the case of Donald Trump becausehe presents a unique danger and therefore, they have a countervailing obligation to the public to inform and warn, . That makes sense to me and I gave no doubt that Trump qualifies for some abnormal psych diagnoses, but many if the essays lapse into partisan diatribes that give lie to the premise. I think Trump's an ass, but in the end, many of these essays are just cheap shots, cloaked in the gravitas of expertise.

Excellent info!

Since each professional reads their own section, the narration is uhhh... well, not professional... but to hear so many pros, confirm what we have all been saying all along, is great.
I recommend this audio book.

Experts discuss the world's biggest problem

This important book consists of stand-alone articles written by 27 mental health professionals. The articles necessarily differ in style and overall quality, but the majority are very informative.

Almost every discussion of psychiatric symptoms is right on target, with abundant examples in each case. If you think our president might suffer from narcissism, sociopathy, bipolar disorder, or cognitive decline, you are right- these authors make an excellent case for a combination of those dangerous conditions.

The most important conclusion of every article is that we are faced with a leader who is unfit to lead, and who could easily drag the world into a nuclear war in the service of his fragile ego. Solving the problem is more difficult than diagnosing it, but one chapter even discusses the application of the 25th amendment.

A MUST Read!

The writers of this book are VERY clear about the danger Trump's mental state is to all of us. There are decades of evidence since Trump has been in the media from the time he was a young man. I'm grateful that these well-respected
professionals felt a strong DUTY to WARN us and wrote this book.

Trump: An Existential Threat

Many of the 27 authors don't mince words: Our civilization and species existence are now in the hands of a madman. He is not only mad (delusional), he is bad (has no conscience). His megalomania maybe the end of us all. For the sake of humanity he must ejected from the Whitehouse.

Scary, uh yeah!

What to say really....”Damned if you do, damned if you don’t comes to mind.”
Is it so difficult to understand those who will say this Audible book is just another attempt at dividing our nation? Is it so difficult to understand those who will say this Audible book is a powerful call to the American people’s to pull their heads out of the sand and heed the warnings? Well yes to both questions.

I believe that the people who elected this president and continue to support him will do so no matter what he does. As Trump said himself, “I could shoot someone in the streets in New York and still not lose support.” (Paraphrased) it seems for now, he was correct.
Can or will rational thinking adults even listen to this book with an open mind? Or perhaps linking rational thinking with Trump supporters is a stretch. I don’t think it is entirely because many were and still are my friends. It’s given new meaning to my allegiance however to understand and accept friends who I now know think so differently from me.
Is it unreasonable to ask, indeed require the president to undergo rigorous psychiatric evaluation. Police officers have to have evaluations before the hiring process because you will be carrying a weapon and have authority to temporarily take away someone’s freedom. Yes, there are flaws in as much as we know there are police officers who somehow slipped through, but the important difference is that we (I am a retired law enforcement officer), don’t have the nuclear arsenals at our disposal should we have a severe psychotic moment(s). Same goes for military intelligence personnel and many other employees in high risk positions.

We can only hope that the instability of this president that is so obvious to millions of people yet somehow disbelieving of millions others, will not have to take us to the precipice of a nuclear holocaust before we finally agree on “The Dangerous Case of Donald J. Trump”

Informative Read

This book was very informative. I've always wanted to know what the experts though about Trump. The book did leave me feeling worried after listening each time because the subject matter was heavy and the realities of what was written was setting in.

The narration wasn't my favorite. I think it was the authors themselves who did the narration. Some were better than others, but overall it was just okay.

Bipartisan Propaganda.

Donald Trump is without doubt a genuine threat to humanity. I bought this book in the hope of hearing supportive arguments based on the discipline of applied psychiatry.

Instead I was served up with a series of blunt psychiatric labels (i.e. malignant narcissism) backed up not by science but by Democratic/DNC and deep state hit pieces along with worn out and unproven accusations previously made through mass media.

This is exactly how psychiatry was usurped in Stalinist Russia and therefor proves the desperate need for measures like the Goldwater rule.

A chance has been missed to have a serious and urgent conversation about a very unstable president because the only thing this book lacks are the words "My name is Hillary Clinton and I endorse this publication" on the inside cover.

A chance missed... Meanwhile a madman is still on the lose in the White House.

Substantial and well delivered.

Each of the mental health professionals provides their uniquely qualified perspective to demonstrate a shared belief - that Donald Trump is a danger to the American people and to the survival of mankind.

There are no diagnoses given (despite false claims by a handful of partisan critics that there are). Commitment to the book requires a genuine desire to get to the truth. The claims made in this book still appear to be standing up to the tests of time. An interesting and sometimes concerning read.
