WYZLY is a screen time app that turns kids' device time into a learning opportunity — instead of hard cutoffs, kids answer educational questions to earn more screen time. Isla is the co-founder and president of the company, and she joins us to share her side of the story.

📱 About WYZLY

WYZLY was born from Isla's own frustration with traditional screen time apps. When the timer ran out, she'd run to her dad begging for more time. Her idea: why not have kids answer questions to unlock the device instead of fighting with parents? Adam and Isla couldn't find an app like that, so they built one. WYZLY targets kids ages 6–13 and uses a "Learn to Earn" rewards-based system powered by AI-generated questions. The app was featured at CES in January and has been racking up thousands of downloads. A new avatar customization feature is on the way.

Adam is the co-founder and CEO of WYZLY. Isla, his 10-year-old daughter, is co-founder and president. She joins calls daily, drew the logo, gives design feedback, and tests the product for her age group. Outside of WYZLY, Isla is a competitive gymnast on the top team in South Carolina, training six days a week.

📋 AAP Screen Time Update

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently updated their screen time recommendations:

- Under 18 months: close to zero screen time

- Up to 24 months: highly limited (sub one hour per day)

- 6 years and older: no hard time limitations — focus on balance and enrichment instead

Adam and Isla think this shift supports WYZLY's approach: encourage kids to earn screen time through educational engagement while maintaining a healthy balance with offline activities.

This episode of The Dad Verb Podcast features Cory Allen. Cory is a former police officer, a U.S. Secret Service agent, and a current Supervisory Special Agent. He joins us to talk about his new children's book, Dada Takes a Trip, on sale February 24, 2026.

Cory wrote Dada Takes a Trip to process his own feelings about being away from his toddler on work trips. The book helps kids learn to handle big emotions when a parent has to leave home for a few days. The characters are based on Cory's real-life pets!

Cory spent years in the Secret Service. He protected First Lady Michelle Obama during that time. He wrote the memoir Breaking Free, and Dada Takes a Trip is its follow-up.

Cory wants to help men talk about tough emotions. Leaving your family for even a couple of days is hard. He thinks dads should say that out loud. As an older parent who cares for aging parents, legacy matters to him. Parents won't be around forever, but their love can last. A book like this gives his children a reminder of that love.
