Story
I left a big-city police department for a fresh start in a smaller town. Less crime. Less murder. But three months later, I’ve been handed the murder investigation of the most hated man in town. The list of potential suspects is as long as Santa’s naughty list, but one name keeps popping up. Maddie Baker. She’s infuriating as hell, but is she a cold-blooded murderer? My instincts tell me no, yet I can’t exactly trust those. The last time I let myself presume someone was innocent, I ended up with a bullet wound and a broken heart.

Now she's throwing herself into her landscaping business, trying to live a life that's as orderly as one of her gardens.

But when I free a bunch of particularly powerful monsters from their cages, I'm not counting on them following me home like lost puppies - stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. These manly monsters are determined to repay me for my help, and they won't get out of my apartment, until they're satisfied we're even. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. Publisher's Summary
For more than four hundred years, the Curse Keepers guarded the barrier between the human and spirit realms. All that changed the day Ellie Lancaster met Collin Dailey. Prophecy demanded they defend the world from evil…even as it ignited a passion that threatened to consume them both.
Now Ellie faces a frightening new life, abandoned by the man she loves and tormented by malevolent spirits unleashing their vengeance upon the earth. Her only shot at protecting humanity - and herself - from the demon scourge is to claim the mark of the god Ahone as her own. Finding it means trusting Dr. David Preston, a handsome professor of Native American studies whose skepticism is surpassed only by his attraction to Ellie. Together they must finish what the Curse Keepers began, defying the forces of darkness to face hell on earth - and unlock the truth of Ellie’s destiny.

Great!!!
After being tricked into opening the gates, Ellie is being stalked and tormented by the demons who have escaped and all the chaos that surrounds them. If that wasn't enough, a dangerous gang is stalking her to find out what she knows about something she has no clue of and a local cop is questioning her about all of the weird things going on around her. Dealing with her father's death and her struggles with Collin's betrayal, she seeks answers on how to get rid of the demons once and for all. I feel like this book was way better than the first book. I didn't hate the first book, mind you. I just didn't really get too much enjoyment out of it. It wasn't a favorite by any means. This book was a very big improvement. There were some things I kind of smacked my head over, but not many. I feel like the author took more time on this book than she did the first. It makes me excited to read the third book. The first book was basically filled with sex and foreshadowing. This book was filled with action and intrigue and suspense. There was still sex in it, of course, but I didn't feel It played as big of a role as it did in the first book. I really got absorbed into this book way more than I did the first book. The characters were still a little cringy in this book, but the transformation in Ellie is very impressive. I also like that you get to see a bit more of the background characters in this book as well. I think I can even say that I've added a new book boyfriend to my list because of this book. I won't say who because I don't want to spoil things. I couldn't give this book a full five-star mark, but I couldn't give it any less than four either. It was a really good book. I just hope that many readers can get through the first book to read this. They are really missing out on a lot if they don't. I'm glad I've chosen to continue on even though I didn't really care much about the first book.

Seriously...
Spoiler alert.
Look. You can't go through one whole book making us fall in love with Colin, then do what you did in this book. He's damaged and he needs someone to not give up on HIM. How selfish and shitty you made Ellie out to be. I was NOT happy with the way this turned out at all. It's bs. She's the most selfish chick ever and the speed with which these people move on.. Like 2 weeks after the death of her dad and her step mom is with someone?? Kind of unrealistic based on how I thought the characters were from the first book. Disappointing to say the least.

The Curse Breakers ranks very high among the audiobooks I've listened to. The narration is very well done and the story exciting and absorbing.
Which character – as performed by Shannon McManus – was your favourite?
I liked all the characters performed by Shannon McManus. She did the demons' voices very well. They sounded suitably creepy and scary.
Any additional comments?
