Publisher's Summary

Previously titled Cowboy's Don't Marry Their Enemy

Can you love someone and hate them at the same time?

She led him on, lied about him, then dumped him for his cousin.

She was his enemy.

He walked.

But he loved her still.

Can people change?

Cora Fischer knew they could. Heartbreak, abject poverty, and a mother’s bear instincts to protect her children at all costs could turn a selfish, spoiled girl into a strong, formidable woman.

But first loves die hard.

They were enemies, never lovers, despite what she told her family and the town. She hated him then, and he hates her now.

But she can give him what he wants, and she’s willing to make a deal. Is she strong enough to conquer her foe and not destroy herself?

Or maybe she could write a new chapter: Old enemies make the best husbands.

Excellent

The Cowboy’s Enemy is an excellent sweet and clean romance. The story of Abner and Cora is beautifully told. It has a different feel than the rest of this series, but it definitely has the emotional pull and, on the flip side, playful banter that I enjoy. Cora’s story is something I’ve seen so often and seen so many people judge. This book is a great reminder that no matter how one bad decision snowballs, God will always be waiting for us to return to him. This amazing series is narrated by Jay Dyess. He gives his listeners a phenomenal experience every single time. Gussman and Dyess are the perfect pairing.

Unselfish Love

I loved this audio. Abner's voice showed such care!

Story:
Wow. I'm speechless. In the first chapter alone I was thrown for so many loops. Total bombshell. I stopped halfway through that chapter and I just sat, shellshocked. This book was very serious and sobering. There was a strong theme surrounding forgiveness for past mistakes and hope for the future. These characters were very well done. I liked the bit of Amish that was woven in. This book definitely didn't have as much of the lightheartedness that most of these books have, but it was really well done and there was still a good amount of humor and teasing.

Pleasantly surprised!

Abner… who would’ve thought… what a surprise :) Jay, thank you for the wonderful narration!
The worm scene is hilarious - “She was the only one supporting the worm. It was a lonely team of two.” hehehe

A favorite from the series

I was blown away by this story and had no idea that I would love Abner so much! He’s the kind of character that makes your heart all warm and Cora’s such a human and relatable leading lady. I’m so impressed with the way Jessie represents flawed and real people in her books - people who have pasts and live on God’s Grace.

Jay Dyess brings her stories to life in a way that makes me want to listen all day long! He is a perfect voice to these tales and I only wish he could put out a new one every few days because I’m quickly burning through them!

Another Sweetwater Ranch book

Another really good book in the Sweetwater Ranch Series. I really enjoyed listening to Jay Dyess narrate this story on Audible. He brings out the stories and makes them seem so real and brings life to the words on the page. He makes you feel like you are right there among everyone as the story unfolds around you.

Jessie Gussman does an awesome job writing the story and between the two you have a wonderful romance story. As you listen to the other stories you kinda get to know Abner a little and this is his story so you get to know him a lot better. Cora is his first love and he has never ever forgotten her.

A really good book that you will not want to miss

Homerun by this author.

Jessie knows how to reel you in with a great story. This is a different story than the other Sweetwater Ranch stories. It’s a loose retelling of Jesus and the woman at the well. Cora had made so many mistakes and her life was tough but she was committed to change. Enter Abner with his own tough backstory. But they had met young and he had been devoted ever since, even as her own life spiraled out of control. I was cheering them on as they both had to rethink previous opinions and assumptions. This is a little grittier than some of her other stories but oh so real and handled tactfully. You can count on a well told story with Jessie Gussman. The narrator is outstanding.

I loved this story

Cora has made wrong choices with men & now has 6 kids. She has woken up to what she needs to do now to make her life better. Then her first love Abner comes back to town. He is so different from the other men who have been in her life. She doesn't know what to make of him. Can they make it together? I loved this story very much. Also I loved Mr. Gussman's reading of it.
