Publisher's summary

When Linda González is 16, her father’s son from México appears at the front door of her Southern California home. Before that moment, neither Linda nor her siblings knew their father had another child.

A beautiful, poignant story of families uniting across physical and emotional borders.

Untold stories of familial secrets and more!

This story is one that is not often told. The author does a wonderful job telling her story including the all too common theme of family secrets and the lies to maintain the facade. Very relatable for Latin communities as themes of keeping family together, machismo and how painful life is are all highlighted with much vivid and enjoyable imagery.

The author also shares grief and pain we often don’t talk about in Latin families along with how costly living with our family’s emotional debt can be (in other words the burden secrets have on our wellbeing).

I am usually not a fan of Spanglish in literature, however the author did an excellent job making certain Spanish words intentional and seamless.

Highly recommend if you are in need of evaluating your own family dynamic and reconcile with family drama.
