Big Oil, Big Trouble

When her colleagues start dying under mysterious circumstances an accountant teams up with a security investigator to find out exactly what's going on at the oil refinery an pipeline company she works for.
This book offers mile a minute drama, more twists and turns than a mountain switchback, a little romance and a couple of BIG surprises. The story is well crafted and well narrated and a delight to listen to.

Fast-paced thriller

Gwynn Reznick is shocked by the auto accident that took the life of her best friend and co-worker at Wilton Oil and Gas. Ruben Dordi, a PI, is hired by the girl’s grandmother to investigate her death. The suspicious circumstances lead Gwen and Ruben to examine other deaths as well as disappearances of Wilton employees. The closer Gwen comes to reveal the truth, the more she feels her own life is threatened, in a corporate world where the chase for money overrides human considerations and people have no qualms to kill for dollars.

In addition to the high-tech contemporary feel and the twists and turns of this gripping thriller, it also reveals an undeniable attraction forming between Ruben and Gwen, and their struggle not to yield to it, so as to keep a cool head. “He pretended to be engrossed in the document, waiting for Gwenn to fall asleep. Tonight, he’d sleep on the sofa since he felt volunerable and didn’t want to take a chance on being tempted by her again.”

When all is said and done, Gwen says, “Being involved in this investigation has spurred something in me that I didn’t know existed. Even when I was scared, I didn’t want it to end.” Reading the book, that was how I felt, too.

The narrator, Natalie Disaster, has a delightful voice and her passion about reading and acting comes through in all the characters she embodies.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I first learned of Inge-Lise Goss work when we both took part in the same multi-author boxset and since then I became a fan of her writing.

Hot and Spicy with a twist

The book starts right off hot. I loved how it goes right to the story. No getting to know the characters or idea of what the story is going to be about. Just Reuben the cop being sexy, argent, protective. I don't know how the author wanted him to look like, but I picture him like the Reuben I knew growing up half Italian half Native American, a young version of James Dean. Recommend this book.

Entertaining Thriller

I enjoyed this book. I had listened to book 2 in the "Gwynn Reznick Mystery Thriller" series earlier, and I was entertained by the Gwynn Reznick character, so it was great listening to her backstory. This book was fascinating and entertaining. The mystery was convoluted and complex. There was plenty of action and many tense moments throughout the prose. I am looking forward to acquiring the third book in the series. Natalie Disaster's narration was fine, and her performance enhanced the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Mystery/Thriller

I very much enjoyed listening to this book. Very fast paced. Great characters. Lost sleep. Couldn't put it down. I loved watching Gwynn and Ruben solve the mystery of who caused the crash of Gwynn's best friend. Their growing attraction caused some angst. Lots of complications. I never knew what might happen next. Very well written. Very well told.
The narration was great. Interesting read/listen.

Exciting thriller with a fearless female

I've enjoyed several books written by the author before so I was happy to listen to this one when I was given the opportunity to get an early audiobook.

This is a thriller with a brave, intelligent, and resourceful heroine. There's a lot going on in this book so the reader needs to pay attention. But the story is so well written, this isn't hard. There is also a romance built in. Perhaps Gwynn has found a new career to pursue when the story ties up the loose ends.

This is my honest review.

There’s a reason it’s called CRUDE!!!!

This is a new author for me and I took a chance getting this book. So very glad I did!
This is a story about greed and corruption and conspiracy and betrayal in this billion $ industry. The protagonist’s (Gwynn Reznick) best friend dies in an accident involving a tractor trailer. Gwynn knows her friend is afraid of these trucks and stays away from them when driving. There are some other suspicious deaths and a few coworkers go missing. She thinks things are a little off. When her friend’s grandmother hires a private investigator to find out what actually happened the night of the accident. The investigation team includes Gwynn in their meetings and more. This is where you need to suspend beliefs. Other than this the book is mostly plot driven. There is some good character development and some great twists and turns through out.
Natalie Disaster does a fantastic job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Company secrets comes with a high cost

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Narrated by Natalie Disaster, The Cost of Crude is an exceptional gritty story as Gwynn Reznick's world crashes around when her friend and fellow co-worker dies in car crash that doesn't feel right to Gwynn. The truth behind her friend's murder plunges Gwynn and those she places her trust in grave danger as those responsible will do whatever it takes to keep them silent. The truth comes with a high price to pay but this gamble is better than staying quiet. Highly recommended.
