Publisher's summary

Captain Amy Cornwall has 48 hours to commit an unspeakable crime - or lose her family forever.

In her career as an Army intelligence officer, Amy Cornwall has seen haunting sights half a world away. None compare to the chilling scene at her Virginia home. It is empty.

A phone rings with a terrifying ultimatum: locate and liberate an unnamed captive in 48 hours, or her kidnapped husband and 10-year-old daughter are dead.

Now, and in open defiance of Army Command, Amy must employ every lethal tactic she has to save them. To succeed, she must discover not only who dispatched her on this mission, but why. Without her family, she's dead anyway.

This is how an audio book should be produced!

First, good story - not too far of a reach in reality and solid characters. Second, very good narration, having a female speak for female characters and a male for male characters. Wow, what a concept. Where Audible has really let me down in the past is with the poor narration. Regardless how good the story itself may be, you have had some terrible narrators who have driven me to either return a book or not purchase a book at all.

Amy Caldwell, Army Captain, Mother, Wife—Dedicated

Wow. I’m surprised there are only 8 reviews of this new series. The Alex Cross series would have been snapped up and devoured by hundreds by now. I started out thinking I wouldn’t like this series. It seemed flat but that disappeared as soon as it became clear there was a conspiracy going on within the Army. Poor Captain Cornwall had no clue until she figured it out. I liked that she was on her own, driving to save her husband and daughter from danger and not knowing for sure what the danger was. Family is important and in this book we saw the lengths one will go to save her family; we see the impact of not having a family and relying on our work the family as CID Vasquez did only to have it yanked away from her when she discovered their betrayal. The characters were well developed and it was good to have a strong female lead. Let’s see how book 2 delivers before jumping on the bandwagon. I am an ardent Alex Cross fan so I hope that Amy Caldwell can follow in his shoes, even though his are much bigger. Good beginning. I listened to the audible version and enjoyed the points of views among the characters. It was nice to have male and female voices. Lauren Fortgang and Eduardo Ballerini were terrific.

THE CORNWALLS ARE GONE

Very good plot. Very good author collaboration. Probably the best storyline & well written book I've read them. It mixed a lot of family, mystery, intrigue, army intelligence, kidnapping, betrayal and just sooo much more!!! It is sooo worth the audio version. The narrators are surperb! They really bring the novel to life. I know you'll enjoy it as much as I do. I very highly recommend this audiobook version.

A few surprises.

No struggle to finish. Couldn't get through it fast enough. Unpredictable in spots. Satisfying ending.

Surprised

I've liked every James Patterson's books, even as a co-writer. This is the first one I've given low rating.
The story dragged, was tedious with no surprises. I doubt anyone will read this, but get a different JP if you can. I would suggest Invisible and Unsolved, his new ones with David Ellis or any of the Privates or NYPD Red.

I tried to like it. Can’t. I made it thru 7 chapters.

I love suspense mysteries. This book kept causing me to eye roll until I could stand it no longer.
Lead character woman and mother with Federal Agency creds and history has arrived home, opening door to her house & has urgent sense of foreboding. No sounds of fam. life. So she moves room to room.... searching with dread in her heart.... And here we have a history lesson on gaberdine fabric, and full descript. of a trench coat down to “buttons and D rings.” Really? 🙄. Plot slow. She works for Coronors Office. And of course has to take her missing family’s case into her own hands....with help of typical gruff, salty, crabby detective who swears a lot and is devoid of social skills. Too Cliché for this listener. Will check back and see what others think.

outstanding read!

I was very excited to read this novel. It is unlike any of the drivel Patterson usually publishes. Exciting from the first page to the last! Don't miss it.
