great story telling

Just as good as the first book. The other reviewer complaining about mispronounced words is exaggerating. The few cases with mispronounced words seemed to be part of the narrator's voice of the characters. Very easy to listen to with consistent different voices for the different characters. Character development continues from the first book and easy to follow universe build. Overall an entertaining story.

Disappointing second book.

The first book hooked me and had my interest so I was hoping this one would continue on a fun path. Unfortunately it started out pretty good a little annoying with character arguing too much for me but tolerable.

The book lost me and my complete interest in the story about halfway through, maybe chapter 38 or 39, when a more established contact with the new "aliens" and the story starts heading in that direction. It didn't make sense and seemed stupid and reckless to me. I lost all interest in the characters or their mission. It ends with a cliff hanger that points in a direction I have absolutely no interest in going so I won't be continuing with this series.

The writing also took a down turn in this book with character interaction that was just too juvenile for me. Too much arguing, too much irrational emotional and familiar drama for characters that are supposed to be top notch professional military not to mention the over the top irrational reactions and motivations of the non military characters, Also some really cringeworthy grade school level dialog. Not my thing.

Finally the narrator does an even worse job with word mispronunciation than he did in the first book. Editors please check the work of these actor/narrators. Constantly mispronouncing the same handful of words over and over is jarring.
